Indian shooter Manu Bhaker made India proud as she won the first gold medal for the country at the 2019 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. The 17-year-old broke the junior world record with her total score of 244.7 in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
With this feat, Manu also became the second Indian shooter, after Heena Sidhu, to win a gold medal in women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISS World Cup.
Manu’s compatriot Yashaswini Deswal, who was also participating in the event, finished 6th in the final round.
The silver medal was won by Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic with a score of 241.9. China’s Quian Wang won the bronze with a total of 221.8.
In the men’s 10m air pistol event, Abhishek Verma and Saurabh Chaudhary qualified for the final. While Verma topped the qualifications with 588, Chaudhary was seventh with 581.
Previously, Manu also bagged a gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships. On the personal front, the young star just started college. She is attending Delhi University’s Lady Shri Ram College, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s in Political Science. We are very proud of you, Manu.
