Malaika Arora Gets Candid About Her Divorce From Arbaaz Khan & We Can’t Help But Admire Her Honesty

Malaika Arora has always been unapologetically herself and that’s one of the reasons why we love her. From talking about dealing with trolls to dating a younger man—we find her candid attitude refreshing AF. Recently, the actress opened up about her divorce and how it affected her, and we can’t help but feel proud of her.

While talking to a leading daily, Malaika revealed that her divorce to Arbaaz Khan was the lowest phase in her life.  She said, “I would definitely say that it was such a huge upheaval in my life and such a change for me to deal with because it was not just me personally, there were families involved, there was my kid involved, there were just so many other aspects involved.” She further added that it was a mutual decision to end things for the best. For the unversed, Malaika and Arbaaz had gotten hitched in 1998 and called it quits in 2017 after 19 years of marriage. The divorce came as a shock to their fans as they were one of the most-loved couples in Bollywood.

That’s not all fam, Malaika also spoke about age-shaming and sexism and stated how it is more subjected to women. She said, “You don’t see any of it happen with men. You never ever see ageism, sexism, it’s more always towards a woman. A woman getting divorced is always like ‘oh my god, how can she?’, a woman having a relationship, ‘Oh, how can she?’, a woman at a certain age working and dressing up a certain way, ‘Oh, How can she?’.” We totally agree with her.

She also revealed that she deals with age-shaming and sexism on a daily basis and that it used to affect her initially, but not anymore. “I just take it in my stride. Like I said, I am a very proud 46-year-old woman. Some of the most successful women world-over are all 45 and above and ruling the world, wearing it on their sleeve—kids, family, work, success stories, careers—I don’t understand why are we here,” she added.  Well, that’s a great point. Isn’t it high time we stop shaming women for a zillion things and start appreciating them instead?
