Remember that phase when everything that Bollywood stars would wear in a film or during promotions would become a raging trend? Think Kareena Kapoor’s harem pants from Jab We Met or Priyanka Chopra’s glossy grey-gold saree from Dostana. Well, we’d have to say that very few have been able to drive that kind of fashion frenzy ever since. And it wasn’t until earlier this year that we witnessed a return of the phenomenon with Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The day Alia started her film’s promotions, everyone wanted to cop pristine white fits and the craze is still going strong. Well, guess what? Looks like she intends to kick-start another round of fashion fandom with her promotion wardrobe for Darlings.
Of late, Alia has been posting pictures in roomy, bell-sleeved garments and the look has all our attention. Here’s why we see it becoming a mega trend:
For Darlings promotion yesterday, Alia stepped out in an airy maxi dress that had our attention for its breezy fit and vibrant colours. The teal velvet garment featured a relaxed silhouette and statement bell sleeves complete with contrasting silk patchwork and tie-dye piping. A little more colour was infused into the design with the baby pink detailing around Alia’s plunging neckline. And even though it was a maxi dress, the effect was more of a flared kurti. From the gathered detail at the front to the colour-pop accents infused with touches of gold, everything about the look screamed desi glamm.
Alia added on to the desi touch by styling her dress with chunky jhumkis, a statement silver ring, a tiny bindi, and soft curls. In the makeup department, she stuck to her signature minimal base and a nude lippie.
Earlier on Sunday, we spotted Alia in a similar black Punit Balana anarkali that was delicately embellished with marori and mirror work. The separate had our attention for its embellished V-neck and scalloped bell sleeves.
Clearly, both the outfits look very close in terms of aesthetics and it is not hard to tell that Alia is pursuing a vibe here. And we’d have to say that the look is working given that it is equal parts comfy and festive. The entire bell-sleeve aesthetic is quite endearing and we can not wait to see how Alia plays with it in the upcoming looks. Also, pretty sure we are gonna cop a bell-sleeved kurti stat. In fact, I have already shortlisted some:
So fashion gworls, all set to enter the festive season in an Alia-inspired look?
