We’ve all heard people complain about how long-distance relationships (LDR) are a lot of hard work and are tough to manage, and we get it. Being physically apart from your partner can make you feel lonely, sad and frustrated. Add to it the struggles of finding time to talk amidst your busy schedules, missing important milestones and expensive plane tickets. But when you find someone you truly love, how can distance keep you apart?
Every relationship comes with its set of challenges, and physical distance is just one of them. LDRs might be tough, but it’s not all gloom and despair! If you’re conflicted about getting into a long-distance relationship, fret not, because it does come with a few silver linings. Plus we all know distance makes the heart grow fonder.
1. Distance Test
All relationships need to pass the test of time and love but an LDR also has to pass the test of distance. But if you and your partner come out stronger after it, you’ve won this war! When you’re away from your partner, insecurities tend to creep in. And if you manage to shoo them away, you’ve got this. And you’ll also find out if what your feelings for each are real or just infatuation.
2. Space Hi Space
Plenty of couples who live in the same city end up fighting with each other due to lack of space, but when it comes to a long-distance relationship, that’s not an issue. You learn to respect each other’s personal space and sometimes that’s just what you might need.
3. Waqt Ki Keemat
Most of us don’t appreciate the time we spend with our loved ones until and unless we’re away from them. But in an LDR you learn to value the time you have together and use it to make memories. There’s no way you’re going to fight with your partner when you meet them after months or maybe years!
4. Dil Ki Baat
Communication is the key to every relationship. And the fact is that a long-distance relationship helps you learn how to communicate properly. It might be a bumpy ride but eventually, it teaches you how to use whatever time you have on the call to express your thoughts and feelings to each other in the best possible way. So when you actually end up staying in the same city again, communication and conflict resolution won’t be an issue.
5. Life Skills
LDRs teach you some much-needed life skills like patience and trust. Love alone cannot be enough for a relationship if it isn’t built on a foundation of trust. But more importantly, it teaches you to be patient because your partner isn’t going to be available at all times to reply to your text or calls. These life lessons won’t be easy to learn but when in an LDR you really won’t have the choice.
6. Sab Healthy Hai Ji
Long-distance relationships reduce the risk of forming an unhealthy relationship. Most couples end up becoming codependent, or their relationship turns toxic because they spend too much time together. Being independent in a relationship is extremely important. LDRs teach you to be independent because your partner won’t always be by your side. They may be there to provide emotional support but when you have to cook that meal or change that tyre, you’ll be doing it on your own. Long-distance relationships allow people to explore themselves, the real world and life while being with someone they love.
7. Hobby Zinda Hai
Most of us are so involved in our relationships that we forget all about ourselves. We end up using all our free time to spend with our partner which means we have no time for ourselves. But a long-distance relationship does not come at the cost of all your time. It gives you a chance to find the perfect balance in your life. You can have a love life and pursue your hobbies or interests because your time belongs to you!
We hope that dispels any doubts you have about LDRs. So, stop overthinking and take that plunge, trust us–it’ll be worth it!
