It has been over a decade since the beginning of the Kardashian phenomenon and looks like there is still no stopping Kim K. Just a couple of days ago, she was trending on Twitter after she showed up for a magazine shoot while having COVID-19-like symptoms. But hey, that’s already old. It’s a brand new day and brand new controversy for the queen of scandal. Remember the Marilyn Monroe dress that she wore to the Met Gala this year? Turns out, it has been effectively ruined! Here’s everything that you need to know about the 1049985977447th fiasco with Kim K written all over it:
What’s So Special About Kim Kardashian’s 2022 Met Gala Dress?
Kim K treaded the 2022 Met Gala red carpet in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday, Mr Kennedy” dress from 1963. The dress is an archived piece of American history that was hand-sewn onto Marilyn Monroe for a custom fit just seconds before she went on the stage. It is a part of the actress’s legacy. Ripley’s Believe It or Not! (museum) set a new Guinness World Records record in 2016 when they acquired the Jean-Louis dress from Julien’s Auctions for a staggering $4.8 million (INR 37,45,05,840). That is when it became the most expensive dress ever sold in an auction.
A Damaged Piece Of History: Here’s What Went Wrong
There was no way anybody could tamper with the size of Marilyn’s dress and to ensure no harm is done, Kim only wore it for a few minutes at the Met Gala and then changed into a replica. Turns out that was not enough to save the dress. Collector Scott Fortner, who runs the account @marilynmonroecollection on Instagram, recently posted new pics of the dress where the damage is clearly visible. The dress is currently on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! just like it was before Kim loaned it and now shows signs of tearing along the closure. Experts have even noticed a lot of crystals are missing from the dress.
In the latest pictures, one of the straps of the dress appears to be badly torn as well.
The dress has been effectively ruined. But how was anyone expecting it to go any other way with a 60-year-old delicate garment anyway?
Just FYI, It’s Not About A Ruined Dress
For everyone confused about the outrage, it is not just about any ruined dress. The Jean-Louis garment is an iconic treasure, an integral part of Marilyn Monroe’s legacy. The dress was designed especially for her. It was literally sewn onto her. However, no consideration was given to that fact when Ripley’s gave it to Kim and when it was stretched upon her body before the Met Gala. But that’s not it. She was also given a jar of Marilyn Monroe’s hair by Ripley’s that she claims will now sit on her bed stand.
Buy Hey, It Wasn’t Just Kim!
Kim is being aggressively called out on Twitter right now. However, she can not be the only one to blame. The onus equally lies on Ripley’s for being so careless with a piece of history just so they could mollycoddle a starlet. They should have said “no” when Kim asked for it. They should have reconsidered it when she was being stuffed into the dress!
Well, let’s just take it as another example that money cannot buy everything and bad things happen when we try to do so.
