After Hina Khan, Karisma Kapoor Is Ekta Kapoor’s New Favourite Muse!

Karisma Kapoor was last seen in a cameo in Shahrukh Khan’s Zero, but it’s been over seven years since we saw her lighting up the big screen. The actress refrained from doing films for a while as she wanted to be at home with her two children, Kiaan and Samiera Kapoor. We have to admit, we’ve missed Karisma’s high-on-energy and vibrant presence on the screen! Today’s (good) news is that the Raja Hindustani actress is all set to resume her acting career.

In an earlier interview, Karisma had said that she was happy being a mother and was not closed to the idea of acting again, but she was waiting for something that really touched her heart. Looks like the actress has finally found that something, and will soon be making a return with a web series.

After Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte, Karisma Kapoor is one of the latest actors to hop on the digital bandwagon. She will soon make her small screen debut with the ALTBalaji series, Mentalhood. Directed by Karishma Kohli and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Karisma will play the role of a small-town mom in this women-centric web series.

Introducing Karisma’s character, Ekta Kapoor posted on Instagram: “When BIWI NO. 1 becomes MUMMY NO. 1! N now we come to d final introduction! The mommy most like us! The enabler, the narrator, d perspective!! The antithesis of the PERFECT MOTHER is the ever-growing EVER-EVOLVING ONE! She tries she cries, she cares, she fails, n she never gives up! Cause motherhood is an ongoing process.”

In another post, Ekta declared the name of Karisma’s character and said that she represents each one of us. She said, “Meet Meira Sharma. She is the inner voice of all moms! She navigates her way thru gluten-free chips n gajar ka halwa… bullies n control freaks… n then blogs all of it!!! She makes us believe 1) the struggle is real 2) there are no right answers 3)there is strength in supporting n not competing n that 4)we are all in it together!!!! Meet our ‘Mental Mom’ @therealkarismakapoor as Meira Sharma.”

We can’t wait to watch Karisma Kapoor play this character on the screen.

According to sources, Mentalhood’s inspiration comes from the American TV drama series Pretty Little Liars, which features the lives of four women who are haunted by their darkest secrets. The show has a multi-star cast, including, Sandhya Mridul, Dino Morea, Shilpa Seth and Shruti Seth.

On Instagram, Karisma introduced herself as Meira, AKA the ‘mental mom’: “Meet Meira Sharma! A small town mom trying to navigate through this jungle of Mumbai momzillas. She knows parenting is about the right balance… it’s the finding of that balance that’s the tricky part. Her muddled thoughts are put on a blog… where she reaches out to every mom. SHE IS YOU. SHE IS ME. SHE IS EVERY MOM. A tired, stressed out, worrying, caring… mental mom.”

The show will soon air on ALTBalaji and Karisma is super excited to be a part of it. She said, “Being a mom is a full-time job that you cannot clock out of. But it’s my favourite thing in the entire world! Every day is a new lesson, a new challenge. And we’re always learning and working at it. So more power to all moms out there!”

Karisma’s children are also super excited about her getting back to work. “I have been lucky enough to have such a wonderful career and I have done a variety of roles. This is something different for me…a different platform. I have been a radio jockey also. I like trying out different things,” said the actress.

We cannot wait to see Karisma Kapoor bring her acting chops and superb comic timing back to our screens.
