Discrimination against the queer community in India isn’t new. From being called different names to being told how to love and whom to love, people have tried to oppress the LGBTQ+ community in different ways. While the scrapping of Section 377 by the authorities did initiate a change in society, there are still several people who hold on to their regressive thoughts. Lack of awareness and treating the subject like a hush-hush topic can be a few of the many reasons as to why people mistreat queer folks. This is why actress Kareena Kapoor has shared that she will educate her sons to not treat people differently based on their sexuality.
In a recent interview, Bebo shared her views on the LGBTQ+ community and why she wants her kids to have the same ideologies.
Kareena pointed out that she doesn’t appreciate when the community is referred to as ‘different’ and said, “Even calling them (those from the LGBTQ community) ‘different’ is something I don’t like. We are one. That’s the whole idea. Why are people even saying that ‘this is different’? No! We’re all the same na with our hearts, lungs, and liver so why are we seeing them in any other way? That’s the way I think and that’s the way I’ll always bring up my boys to think also.”
We love how Bebo believes in equality and wants her sons, Taimur and Jeh, to have the same principles. She’s a terrific mama and we’re sure that the little Pataudis are going to grow up to be amazing human beings.
While giving a message to the community, she said, “I love you guys! I love the fact that you always shower me with so much love. I’m all for transparency and both Saif and I are people who live life transparently and have friends all over the world from the LGBTQ community. We are open-hearted and open-minded and that’s the way I look forward to bringing up my children. We talk to them about issues pertaining to the community and I feel that’s how it should be.”
Well, that’s the first step anyone can take towards putting an end to the discrimination the LGBTQ+ members face. Kudos to Bebo for raising awareness about equality among her children!
