I thought Nisha Rawal and Karan Mehra were absolute goals when I first saw them together in Nach Baliye 5. The two were newly married and clearly, head over heels in love with each other. Back then there was a certain reverence with which the two looked at each other. To me, it looked like they were the most sorted couple in the TV industry. Never would I have imagined in my wildest dreams that it would come to a point where the two would have a public showdown and the police would get involved. And yet it is happening. Here is everything that has happened so far and why it is breaking our heart:
Karan Mehra & Nisha Rawal’s Ugly Public Spat
The truth is that not all marriages last and sometimes relationships fall apart. Now, call it the downside of being a celeb that everything you do is open to the public eye. Also, you have an image to maintain which makes things all the worse. Seems like something similar is happening to Karan and Nisha right now as their spat continues to get uglier by the day.
What Karan Has To Say
It all started with Karan’s shocking arrest yesterday after Nisha filed a domestic violence case against him. Given the actor’s clean public image, everyone was left aghast. Karan talked to the media yesterday after getting bail and accused Nisha of lying and lodging a false complaint. He shared that their married life was falling apart lately and thus the two decided to opt for separation. However, problems started brewing when they could not finalise an alimony amount.
“She wanted more than what I could give. I told her, ‘What you want, I can’t give and what you want, can’t be given’” he shared. He further added that after the disagreement Nisha and her brother Rohit threatened to take the matters to the court. According to him, Nisha barged into his bedroom later that night, started abusing him and his family, and also spat on him. “I didn’t want to talk right then. I got up to go into the bathroom when she suddenly banged her head on the wall and said, ‘ab dekho kya hota’. Actually, Nisha has mood swings and a violent anger streak. She would throw stuff and hit herself and others. Five-six years ago, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. People, including our friends and relatives have seen her behaviour in public and I couldn’t take it anymore,” he said.
What Nisha Has To Say
After Karan, Nisha has spoken to the media now and claims that Karan has been spinning false stories against her. She has also talked about how Karan had been deferring the discussion and turned violent when confronted by Nisha and her brother. “Karan just walked out of the room, and as I stood up to leave, he grabbed me by my hair and smashed my head on the wall. Before I could even realise I was bleeding, he pinned me against the wall holding me by my neck. I actually cried out to him asking why he hates me so much,” shared Nisha.
Nisha has accused Karan of infidelity and shared that it was the cheating that made the marriage fall apart. Responding to Karan’s allegations that she hurt herself so as to implicate him, she said “This is my bread and butter. Why would I do it?”
She further shared that she had actually given him her jewellery to pay EMIs when things got financially tight for them in 2020. “The money I demanded was only for my son, and I even told Karan that I would not hold it against him if he is not able to pay the same,” she added.
Nisha also accepted that she has bipolar disorder but says that it does not negate the fact that Karan has been a bad partner. “People still have so much stigma against mental health. Bipolar is a mood disorder, and I was diagnosed with it after I lost my child in 2014. Karan was not available emotionally and would hit me, even when I was going through a traumatic time. You cannot bring that fact here to put me down,” shared Nisha.
What Nisha and Karan Acquaintances Have To Say
Nisha and Karan’s friends and acquaintances have also opened up on the matter now. Designer Rohit K Verma who is a close friend of Nisha took to Instagram recently and shared how she has been suffering for quite some time now. “I have been seeing silently suffer for years finally she decided to let out her cry for help and stand for herself and child.” Actress Kashmira Shah has also spoken in Nisha’s support and shared in an interview, “I am with Nisha and apparently he (Karan) did hit her and there were a lot of financial things he has messed up with and he has been hitting her for the last couple of times. We found out when we came to the house and Nisha has been quiet about it because it is a very personal thing.”
However, Bigg Boss 10 winner Manveer Gurjar has supported Karan. Responding to a fan who supported Karan on social media and praised his soft nature, Manveer wrote, “Correct! Totally agreed…I met him in Bigg Boss 10…AND MARK MY WORDS…He was sooooooo caring and humble.”
That said, TV actor Gaurav Chopra has urged everyone to handle this with grace so that the spat has no implications on Karan and Nisha’s son. Well, we totally agree with Gaurav. Of course, seeing them go from love birds to bitter enemies has been really heartbreaking for so many of us. For someone like me, who has always thought of them as #CouplGoals, this is all the more shocking. But that’s the reality of life. Sometimes things fall apart and there isn’t much we can do except hope that justice is done to whosoever has been wronged here.
