Karan Johar Reveals ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ Is Like KKHH & We’re Not Sure How We Feel

Let’s be real, we all have a complicated relationship with Karan Johar’s films, especially Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. For many of us, this flick remains an important part of our childhood, whereas now as woke adults, it is hard to look past its glaring problems. But Karan is still not done with the idea of KKHH and we have mixed feelings about it.

Recently, Karan opened up on his next directorial venture Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani and how it is going to be ‘quintessential Bollywood film’. The director shared, “I did go through phases of evolution as a filmmaker. But right during the pandemic, I felt I just needed to make a movie that made me feel like I was 25 again. And when I was 25, the only movie I could think of or make was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, because it was like an accumulation of all the movies that I had grown up watching. It’s a homage to Raj Kapoor, Yash Chopra, Sooraj Barjatya.”

Karan added, “We are all trying very hard to break the mould, to tear the envelope, and cross cinematic boundaries as filmmakers. But then we also have forgotten that there was an innocence and purity to what we are known as… the quintessential Bollywood, which has its heart on its sleeve, songs, it has dance for no reason, theatrics and drama that don’t seem real.”

While we are all game for nostalgia and old school charm, we hope Karan has not forgotten about oh-so-many problematic things about KKHH. From making a woman change her entire personality to get a man to dialogues like, ‘Ladki toh wo hoti hai jisse ghar mei apni maa ke pass le jaya jaa sake‘ (A girl should make you feel like you can take her home to meet your mom).

We hope that with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, KJo would avoid making the same mistakes. After all, it is 2022 already, and we don’t have the energy to entertain sexist men like Rahul Khanna.
