This Jewellery Brand Savagely Shut Down Trolls Calling Out Their Nude Photoshoot

As a society, we’ve still not come to terms with nudity and still view it as sexualisation and not celebration. And if someone ever dares to bare, they have to face the consequences. This is what exactly happened with a jewellery brand.

Women’s contemporary jewellery brand, OLIO, took to their Instagram to share a series of pictures from their new haathphool collection. The aesthetically shot pictures by Julia Dzyuman feature a top-nude model. Angelina Kuhar can be seen holding onto her bosom with the haathphools being the point of focus.

Now, of course, this didn’t sit well with some of the followers who in no time started calling out the brand. From asking the brand to ‘not promote Indian jewellery with a Western mindset’ to giving their two cents on how ‘females are more than just a body’, they had a lot to say. Here, take a look at some of the comments.

However, instead of letting this get to them, OLIO decided to teach and educate people. They called out these trolls in their own posts and wrote, “What an interesting reaction to these images! So many people loved it yet so many found it so offensive (which we find quite confusing). Just wanted to say nudity doesn’t necessarily imply sexuality. Of course it can be provocative, but it’s also just our natural state of being. It’s just a body. In many cultures, nudity is an extremely common practice, without any sexual connotation. For us, we just loved these images. It feels raw and real: just a body and some jewels ✨We love women who chose to wear sarees and we love women who chose to bear it all. Ultimately, as long as it’s her choice, how does it matter to any of us.

Further, the brand shared some of the negative comments they received on their post. But they did not stop there! OLIO further talked about how ‘we are the country that literally wrote Kamasutra, an ancient text on human sexual behaviour.’ Sharing the post they wrote, “Embracing a culture that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and bodily autonomy for all ❤️

While we still have a long way to go when it comes to accepting nudity, OLIO did a fab job of educating the trolls and standing their ground.
