Seven months into the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve seen a lot of virtual weddings. But a drive-in wedding? Now, who would’ve thought of that? Meet Roma Popat and Vinal Patel, a couple-based in London, who recently pulled off a drive-in wedding so that their loved ones could be a part of their special day.
The UK-based desi couple had their friends and family–around 250 of them–watching the wedding ceremony on a big screen while sitting in their own cars. Just like you watch a movie at a drive-in theatre! Roma and Vinal were supposed to get married in April 2020, but they had to postpone their wedding owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Not wanting to delay it any further, Roma and Vinal decided to get married on October 2, 2020, by organising a drive-in wedding.

Last month, the UK government issued some fresh guidelines in which they reduced the number of people at gatherings to 15 from 30. While the couple pitched the idea of a drive-in wedding to their wedding planner as a joke, they made it a reality recently, and how!
Roma and Vinal got married in front of their family members and the remaining guests parked their nearby at Braxted Park (wedding and events venue) in Chelmsford. While over 100 cars were parked outside, 300 of their guests from around the world attended the wedding virtually.
Talking to an international media portal, the new bride said, “When we had to postpone our wedding in April, we had no idea whether we would be able to get married this year or not. We have so many friends and family and we wanted them to be a part of our celebration. It literally meant everything to us to have everyone there, albeit in a slightly different way to the one we envisaged. It’s a day we’ll never forget.”
Well, we agree! Even we won’t be able to forget the first grand wedding we saw during the pandemic.
The Baraat
In a COVID-free world, the groom would’ve made a grand entry on a ghodi or a car. But he weaved through the parked cars in a decorated golf cart while the friends and families honked.
Waiters On Segways At The Unique Wedding!
Keeping the safety standards in mind, all the guests were welcomed with a hamper that contained snacks, safety instructions, sanitisers and bin liners. The guests were requested to stay inside their cars unless they had to use the restroom.
Their wedding guests could order food from a dedicated website to be safely delivered by waiters on segways. They were asked to flash their car lights in case they needed any help. Isn’t that cool?
After the ceremony, both Vinal and Roma, came out on the lawn and took rounds in between the parked cars on a golf buggy. Oh, it was a sight to watch! Check out the pictures:
The Simple Yet Stunning Bride!
How can we talk about a wedding and miss out on the bride’s gorgeous outfit? For her D-day, Roma chose a beige lehenga, and she paired it with a red net dupatta. She kept the jewellery minimal.
We loved how Roma opted for a fresh face look for her day wedding. Minimal eye makeup, nude lips and kohl-lined eyes–we’re totally digging her makeup look.
Stunning, right? Here are some products that will help you recreate Roma’s look!
Well, Roma and Vinal’s not-so-usual wedding was not only beautiful, it also proved that anything is possible if you really want it to happen. Congratulations you guys! You made it look so gorgeous.
