Homegrown Indian Beauty Ingredients That Will Give Your Skin A Natural Radiance

K-Beauty may be one of the big players in the beauty industry right now, but Indian beauty brands are no less. If you notice, the niche ones tend to take a more organic route to skincare. They opt for sustainable packaging and homegrown ingredients to create their products. Instead of using popular beauty ingredients such as shea butter, green tea, bamboo extract, calendula, they’re gravitating more towards ingredients grown on Indian soil. Let’s check them out, shall we?

Homegrown Indian Beauty Ingredients That Will Give You Glowing Skin

These Indian beauty ingredients will surely brighten up your complexion and give you a radiant look.

Besan (Gram Flour)

The ingredient is as precious as gold! It’s made from ground chickpeas, and our ancestors have been using this ingredient in home remedies for centuries. Due to its alkalizing properties, this ingredient can help with de-tanning and keeping acne at bay. It can be either used as a cleanser, body scrub, or a face pack. To make either of these products, you can mix besan with honey, milk, unflavored yogurt, or turmeric.

Haldi (Turmeric)

Haldi is such a popular homegrown ingredient in Indian cuisines that you will find it in every desi kitchen. Not to mention, it’s a star ingredient at Indian weddings. As far as Indian traditions are concerned, Haldi helps to ward off negative energy, brighten the skin and purify the body. When mixed with milk and honey, it makes the most soothing face pack.

Kokum Butter

Commonly grown and cultivated in some parts North-Eastern India and Western Ghats of India, kokum butter has become a popular beauty ingredient in India. Similar to shea butter, kokum butter is known for its moisturising properties. It’s believed that kokum butter is much lighter than cocoa butter and will not clog the pores or cause the skin to breakout. While kokum butter can be used by itself, some brands like to mix this ingredient with other plant oils and homegrown ingredients.

Ghee (Clarified Butter)

Hot parathas and ghee make the yummiest combination, don’t you agree? Since ghee also acts as a natural nourishing ingredient, it does improve the texture of the skin by making it soft, supple and smooth. It also is packed with fatty acids that help to hydrate and nourish dry skin types. You can apply ghee directly on your pout to soothe chapped lips or make a face pack with it by mixing it with besan – both tips work wonders!

Kesar (Saffron)

Kesar may have originated from Iran, but in India, many beauty brands have started to use it in their products. Some believe that kesar can be used to treat pigmentation, lighten scars and fade away blemishes. To make a homemade moisturising toner, soak 2-3 flakes in a bowl of milk and leave it for an hour. Then, soak a cotton pad into this mix and apply it all over your face. This will help to keep the skin smooth and radiant.

With so many wonderful Indian beauty ingredients available locally, you might want to put that snail mucin sheet mask back into your cupboard and befriend these instead.
