Rihanna Says She’ll Have Kids ‘With Or Without A Partner’ & We Hope More Women Follow Suit

If there’s someone in today’s day and age who has proved that women can do it all, it’s Rihanna. The pop sensation has donned multiple hats in her life, including singer, songwriter, actor, businesswoman and philanthropist. And she has no plans of slowing down, at least not anytime soon!

In an interview with an international publication, Rihanna candidly opened up about what she’s working on, what’s changed ever since she entered this new decade, and her plans for the future. She spoke about how she doesn’t have time to ‘tolerate shit’ as she’s growing older. “Since I turned 32, I’m realising life is really short. You don’t have a lot of time to tolerate shit, you know? You put so much on your plate. When you’re overwhelmed, you need to start cutting things out. And I’m overwhelmed too much. What’s happening now is that I’m going back to black and white. My grey area is shutting down,” she said.

When it comes to her work, the singer said she is working extra hard on her music and her business. Rihanna runs her own line of makeup and beauty products, called Fenty Beauty. “I’m working like this now so that I don’t have to in the future,” she said. “I know I will want to live differently.”

So what is this ‘different’ life that she envisions for herself? When asked what her life will look like in 10 years, she said that having kids is definitely part of her plan. “Ten years? I’ll be 42! I’ll be ancient. I’ll have kids—three or four of ’em.”

But that’s not all. One of the biggest pressures that women in our society face (yes, even in 2020) is to get married, have a family and ‘settle down’ as soon as possible. They are often expected to put family and motherhood above everyone else, and are pressurised to find the ‘right partner’ from an early age.

But Rihanna doesn’t care about societal standards. When asked whether she’d still have children if she hadn’t found the right partner, she responded with a resounding “hell yeah!” without hesitation.

“I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love,” she said.

Well, we are so happy that powerful women like Rihanna are showing the world that finding ‘the right man’ is not a pre-requisite for motherhood or family. The definition of what a ‘family’ means is getting redefined every day, and women shouldn’t be afraid to take on motherhood on their own.

We hope this inspires more women who want to be a mother to take the plunge, with or without a partner.
