Quick question to the femme-presenting people reading this: Do you also daydream until you drift off to sleep before bedtime? Because I do! And apparently, I’m not the only one. We’ve stumbled across a lovely and intriguing Reddit thread where women have shared favourite fake scenarios they fall asleep to and they’re so, so relatable and brilliant. Frankly, it’s just a sign of someone having a grand imagination and I’m all for it.
Here, take a look at all the confessions:
1. “I bring myself to a women’s only mountain spa where I hike and run all day. There are dogs and cats around. I then go in the hot tub, get massages and facials, and eat a great meal with other women like me. It’s very specific I know, I spend a lot of time there when I can’t sleep. I guess it’s my fantasy to just be in nature and get very physically fit and healthy. The real-life daily grind doesn’t really allow that.”
2. “Imaginary conversations and events with the man I loved who no longer loves me back.”
3. “My boyfriend cheating, my family dying, me getting kidnapped, me being the hero in a situation, the world getting consumed in a war…”
4. “I pretend I am curled up under my cat’s belly like a kitten. I’m normal sized, and my cat is giant. She purrs and licks my hair and I just enjoy the warmth and the comfort.”

5. “In about half a year, I will buy my house without a mortgage for the full amount and imagine how I will install furniture, paint the walls and plant flowers in the yard.”
6. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve always imagined my life with my crush. You have no idea how many times Gavin DeGraw and I have met in my head. He’s been my celebrity crush for about 20 years. But it isn’t always a celebrity. When I was 12, my object of affection was the guy I’m currently (43) dating. I got really high one night and told him about that. He thought it was hilarious.”
7. “I always insert myself into whatever show I’m watching at the time, fanfiction style. I did NOT live long in the walking dead.”
8. “Something sexual.”
9. “I’m a simple gyal, I dream of my handsome billionaire husband loving me more than anything in this world and us having lots of great sex before bed.”
10. “I’m a child at heart so my sleep stories are Pirate Queen (strong and feared), all-powerful Sorceress (benevolent mostly, sometimes wicked), tiny fairy living in a tiny house at the base of a huge tree, it’s usually raining and I’m brewing soup/tea/cakes (usually something mundane but a cosy scenario. Spend a lot of time imagining flower petal dresses and coloured wings). Occasionally something with a celebrity (Eminem is a heavy feature and I’m not ashamed. The Mad Hatter makes guest appearances and I am ashamed).”
11. “Relaxing beach scenes or imaginary arguments help me unwind before bed.”
12. “Usually wandering through the snow, hearing the crunch of it under my boots while I wrap my scarf and coat around me to fight the cold. I’m always wandering with no city in sight, with a bag filled with all my possessions inside, off to find this other place, though I never get there.”
13. “If I’m alone, I imagine my life shared with the imaginary man of my dreams.”
14. “Lottery winning and associated fun stuff. Or murder. Depends on if it’s an intrusive thoughts kinda day.”
15. “Running into celebrities/music artists, only calling them by their first or real name as if we’re friends and predicting what their reaction would be.”
The feminine urge to create false scenarios in our heads in order to relax.
