Yes, There’s A Right Way To Use Your Face Wash – Here’s How

All this while I was ruining my 5-step routine by cleansing my face the wrong way. I thought it was as simple as scrubbing the product in for a couple of seconds. But there’s so much more to it.

I now learned how to do it right and I’ve felt my skin feel a little better than normal. The question remains though. How to use face wash?

So, here’s a step-by-step breakdown of how I wash my face every day.

Wash Your Hands

The first step to answering “how to apply face wash?” is to wash your damned hands. I always begin the process by washing my hands. If your hands are dirty, you’ll transfer all of that dirt to your face. Just wash your hands with a gentle, alcohol-free soap. Post this is the best time to use face wash.

Rinse Your Face

The next step involves rinsing the face with lukewarm water. This temperature is not too hot to strip my face of oils. It’s not too cold to tighten my pores and trap bacteria. It’s like a warm-up exercise for my face.

Dispense Some Product

And, then I squeeze some of the cleanser out on my palms. I decide the amount depending on how strong the cleanser is. If a pea-sized amount foams up a lot, I don’t go overboard. Remember, more product isn’t equivalent to better cleansing.

Massage It In

I spend about 30 to 40 seconds massaging the cleanser into the different parts of my face. And I’m sure to avoid applying the product too close to the eyes. But I go over the T-zone, chin, and forehead – slowly and gently. If your cleanser contains actives, you might want to keep it on for a minute or two for your skin to absorb all that goodness.

Wash It Off

Wash the product off thoroughly with lukewarm water. I make sure I’m not missing any spots. Any leftover build-up can irritate the skin.

Dry Your Face

While drying your face, always use a soft, clean cloth or towel. Remember to just dab it over your skin gently. Never rub or scrub.  Rough fabrics can hurt the skin and cause microtears on the surface. And a dirty, unwashed cloth can do worse.
