The problem of brittle nails is very common. Weak or brittle nails can happen for several reasons, especially if you continuously use cheap nail paints, get your nails gel-manicured frequently or keep washing your hands often. Age, iron deficiency, improper removal of gel manicures, cold weather, and other environmental factors can also cause your nails to split, peel, or break. But that doesn’t mean it’s not fixable. Our fingernails, as well as toenails, go through a lot during the day, so over time, they are bound to get weak. If you’re suffering from weak nails, it’s time to adopt a new nail care regimen and add nail strengtheners into your beauty routine.
Nail strengtheners are vital even if you think your nails are strong enough. Just like using a moisturiser on your skin daily has its benefits, using nail strengtheners regularly also help heal dry, damaged and uneven nails and bring your digits back to life while preventing any further damage. But you don’t need to spend extra cash on yet another beauty product. When it comes to nail strengtheners, you can find the ingredients to create your own DIY product in your kitchen cabinet.
If you’re strapped for cash, here’s how you can create your own DIY nail strengthener from the comfort of your own home.
2 Tablespoons of olive oil
1 Tablespoon of lemon juice
1 teaspoon of chopped garlic (paste)
If you’re looking for a good nail strengthener recipe, this is the most effective and easiest one out there. Simply mix these three ingredients together in a bowl and let your nails soak in it for about 20 minutes. Olive oil is rich in vitamin E and absorbs easily into the skin, making it a perfect candidate for promoting nail growth. Lemon juice, on the other hand, is rich in vitamin C which helps remove stains and promote stronger growth while the garlic paste contains selenium which provides your nails with the nutrition its been lacking. Do this thrice a week and you’ll see results within a month.
We all know the benefits of a hair mask, but did you know that your nails could use some extra pampering as well.
2 Tablespoons of shea butter
1 Tablespoon of olive oil
2 drops of rose essential oil
Mix these products in a bowl and massage the mask into your nails, cuticles and skin. To make it more effective, cover your hands with cotton gloves and wait for 20 minutes. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids that heal, strengthen and promote the rebuilding of your nails and cuticles. Meanwhile, rose essential oil softens your cuticles and keeps them moisturised. Use this mask at least once a week to notice a visible change.
If it’s just dry or hard cuticles that you’re dealing with, then there’s a special DIY recipe to treat this issue.
1 teaspoon jojoba oil
1 to 2 drops tea tree oil
Mix these two oils together and store it in a container. Every night, before going to bed, massage a bit on your cuticles to keep them nourished and moisturised. Jojoba oil is said to nourish the skin and also promote nail growth while tea tree oil is rich in anti-fungal properties which helps keep the nail beds free from any nasties.
Go on and give your nails the proper love and care they need.
