What’s that one thing you cannot stop doing in this lockdown/unlock? Is it watching too much Netflix? Eating like there’s no tomorrow or taking online courses to broaden your horizons? Mine has shifted from watching serial killer documentaries to doing skincare! And I find it more rewarding than the former.
I cannot tell you how many different types of products I’ve invested in so far (most of them disappointed me more than my ex!) and I bet you have too! Our quest for the best skincare products is neverending. Even if we do manage to find something that our skin likes, there’s always a new product launch calling out our name.
But here’s an important piece of information: doing skincare alone won’t help you get the skin you’ve always desired. Did you know that skincare does only 20% of the job, the rest 80% accounts for your lifestyle? Eating right, getting at least 8 hours of sleep, exercising–to name a few–are important factors for your internal as well as external health. So, here’s what you can do to ensure that your skin glows no matter what, without any skincare products. That’s right!
How To Get Great Skin (Without Doing Skincare)
Having great skin is all about the things you do to keep it happy. Doing skincare, eating your fruits and vegetables, working out, getting your beauty sleep–it could be anything, but not one alone. It’s unfair to expect so much from a bottle of moisturizer or a salad you ate that one time. Whatever you do, it should be done consistently. That being said, here are some simple lifestyle changes that can give you the skin of your dreams:
Meditation And Yoga
The skin is the direct reflection of what’s happening inside. If you are stressed, it is going to show on your skin. One of the best ways to de-stress is meditation. It not only relaxes your mind but also calms your body. Meditate every day before going to bed, even if it’s for ten minutes, and you will notice that your mind is calm, focused with improved concentration, and starts showing on your skin too!
Doing yoga can be equally relaxing, especially for your mind, body and soul. You can also try facial yoga for a natural glow and them Kareena Kapoor wale sculpted cheekbones!
Eating Habits
Who doesn’t love cheese and sweets? Well, your skin. The protein found in cheese and other dairy products increases the hormone levels of insulin which stimulates the sebaceous glands. These glands, in turn, produce more sebum. Thus, acne! Sugar consumption, on the other hand, can age you faster (yes, we’re talking about glycation).
Just staying away from junk food, processed food items and sugar for a couple of months will help you see what a huge difference eating habits can make to your gut and glory. Adding these five food groups will be a good start towards great skin.
A Break From Screens
Did you know your smartphone is making you age faster? It’s extremely important to take a break from screens–phone, laptop, iPad, what have you- as they emit blue light which is harmful to both our eyes and skin. This artificial blue light can disrupt our body’s natural sleep cycle, which is why we wake up with swollen eyes.
Try this: Turn off your screen time after 10 pm. Instead, indulge in some self-care activities like putting on a sheet mask or catching up on reading. You’ll not only give your skin a much-needed break but also wake up feeling fresh and energized.
It’s true what they say, big results show by making small changes.
