How To Choose The Right Kind Of Facial Cleanser, According To Your Skin Type

Cleaning your face is the first step in every skincare routine. Whether you follow an elaborate skincare ritual or stick to the basic CTM, cleansing is important as it removes the debris that has accumulated on your face throughout the day, such as dirt and sweat. It also helps remove dead skin cells, excess sebum and just all the nasties from your face in general.

But what do you use to cleanse your face? A face wash or a soap or do you think that cleaning your face with a cleansing milk or micellar water is good enough? Spoiler alert, they are NOT as they leave residue behind and you need to wash your face to keep your skin’s surface clean. Yass, double cleansing for the win!

But what kind of a cleanser do you use? And is it the right kind? Keep reading to know all about choosing the right facial cleanser for your skin type.

The Right Kind Of Cleanser, According To Your Skin Type

If your cleanser boasts that it is suitable *for all skin types*– doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll suit you too or it is the right kind indeed. Here’s a mini-guide to help you find the best face cleanser for your skin.

For Dull Skin

If you have dull skin, choose a cleanser that is specially meant to boost glow and radiance. Ingredients such as charcoal, AHAs, green tea, oatmeal, aloe vera, rosehip oil and other brightening ingredients are the ones you should look out for. Make sure that the cleanser gets easily absorbed into your skin, making your skin look all fresh and dewy.

For Oily And Acne-Prone Skin

Acne can happen due to two umbrella reasons–internal or external factors. No matter what’s causing them, you have to keep your skin’s surface clean as the accumulation of dirt can further erupt the situation.

Also, look for cleansers that have salicylic acid, and are alcohol and oil-free. You’d want a cleanser that not only cleans your face but also keeps the oil at bay, therefore not leading to more acne. Just wash your face 2-4 times a day, followed by a toner (choose one that has glycolic acid in it) and apply your face moisturizer.

For Dry Skin

Choosing the right kind of cleanser, especially if your skin is dry can be such a task as you’d want a cleanser that doesn’t strip away the natural oils but instead, puts the moisture back into your skin.

Firstly, never choose a cleanser for dry skin that has alcohol in it as it dries up the skin. Add-ons such as artificial fragrance and chemicals will also help your skin. Choose a milk-based cleanser that’s loaded with moisturizing benefits. Hyaluronic Acid is the skincare ingredient you should worship as it not only maintains the optimal hydration levels but also keeps the skin hella moisturized.
