Slathering The Right Amount Of Sunscreen Is The Only Way To Stay Protected

Want to stay protected from the sun at all times? Sign us up. It’s no secret that slathering a good amount of sunscreen on your face is an important task on your checklist, come rain or shine. But, swiping on too little sunscreen won’t protect you from the harmful effects of sunrays. And too much? Ugh! You’re going to end up looking like a ghost.

As we all know, sunscreen should be the first guest invited to your skincare party but the last one to leave (last step in your skincare routine). There are numerous SPF options on the market today, but regardless of which one you choose, using a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is the thumb rule.

After we are sorted in that department, we end up asking the classic ‘how much sunscreen should you apply on your face’ question even before adding them to our carts. Yes, there are a list of questions that pop up (especially if you’re fairly new to the sunscreen business). Wait, hold on. We’re here to help you solve this mystery.

How Much Sunscreen Is Too Much Sunscreen?

Experts recommend using 2 milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin will give you the protection you need. Confused? Here’s a cue. Before you squeeze out extra onto your fingers, contemplate how much sunscreen will fit on a desert spoon. Do not forget to cover your eyelids and lips, too. If need be, slap on some more sunscreen on your face.

Let us explain further. Basically, follow the ‘two-finger rule,’ which means dispensing a nickel-sized dollop that equates to covering the length of your index and middle finger. Remember, it’s a combination that can be applied to both face and neck before you step out to run errands.

And, what about stick and mist sunscreens? We’ve got you covered. If you’re comfortable using stick sunscreens, simply apply four strokes back and forth (ensure to cover your neck, too) and then spread it evenly across. And, what about mist and spray sunscreens? ‘How much sunscreen to use on face?’ is a general question we ask while spritzing it all over our face. It’s best to spray the sunscreen on your face until it’s shining (just rub it in after you spray). Remind yourself while using a spray sunscreen, ‘If it’s glistening, then you’re listening.’

Sun Safety Tips To Keep In Mind Before You Apply Sunscreen

Get ready to take on the day because you’re schooled well on how much sunscreen to use on your face. Apart from applying sunscreen, here are a few tips to help brave the blazing sun.

  • Generally, a white cotton T-shirt offers a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of 5! So, consider wearing only cotton clothing that covers maximum parts of your body for sun protection.
  • Before you step out, carry an oversized umbrella for maximum protection from the scorching sun.
  • It’s a no brainer. Wear sunglasses that offer 100 percent protection to UV rays.
  • Add a styling element (choose from scarves, hats and a pair of gloves) to amp up your attire. Shhh! It’s an ideal solution to protect you from the sun.
  • We ain’t telling you again. Drink at least ten glasses of water to keep yourself (also your skin and hair) hydrated.
  • To provide an extra degree of protection, hunt for UPF clothing before you decide to surf.

Now that you understand the ABCs of applying sunscreen, go bag these babies right now!
