In a 2021 interview, Kangana Ranaut claimed to be the “highest tax-paying actress” in Bollywood. She said, “Even though I come under highest tax slab pay almost 45 % of my income as tax, even though I am the highest tax-paying actress but because of no work haven’t paid half of my last year’s tax yet, first time in my life I am late in paying tax.” Turns out, this is not true.
Kangana is not the highest tax-paying Bollywood actress. In fact, she doesn’t even come in the top three.
The Actual Highest Tax-Paying Actress
Currently, the highest tax-paying actress in Bollywood is Deepika Padukone! She paid Rs. 10 crores in taxes in the financial year 2016-2017 and has been paying a similar estimate since then, according to GQ India. Meanwhile, no other Indian actress has come close to paying Rs 10 crores in taxes. Alia Bhatt comes second on the list and is known to pay around Rs 5-6 crores in taxes every year.
Katrina Kaif was previously the top taxpaying actress in Bollywood and paid more than Rs 5 crores in taxes in the fiscal year 2013-2014. However, she was quickly surpassed by Deepika due to the widespread success of her Bollywood projects as well as new business prospects. According to StockGro, DP has a net worth of roughly Rs 500 crores and earns Rs 40 crores every year. Since 2018, the Pathaan actress has also raised her film fees. She is presently charging between Rs 15-20 crores for films and up to Rs 8 crores for endorsements.
While Deepika Padukone tops the list of actresses, Akshay Kumar is the highest tax-paying actor in Bollywood, according to several media sources. As per those sources, the Khiladi pays over Rs 25 crores in taxes every year!
