Following a year-long dry spell, the award shows are back in action (finally!). And while they might have kept it low-key for the Golden Globes 2021, the red carpet was finally rolled open for the 63rd annual awards, after a hiatus of what feels like forever. Some of the artists did play safe and participated remotely. But there were also those who were ready to take the risk, both by physically attending the award night and donning some wild fashion numbers.
Rest assured, the recent Grammys gave us plenty of looks to talk about. Also, we took a lot of screenshots, some to bookmark stellar looks and a few to just quickly send to that fashion-forward friend and ask ‘why though?’ To sum it up: the 63rd Grammys red carpet had its share of both fashion hits and misses and here’s a quick round-up for you all.
Oh No, They Did Not! Fashion Misses At The Grammys
We get that our stars might be feeling a little rusty after the entire lockdown situation. We mean, forget red carpets, no one has walked out of their homes all this while. Now that we might be trying to steer back to normalcy, things do feel surreal and not to forget unnerving. Red carpets, as it is, have always been nerve-wracking for the biggest of the stars. And the hesitation showed in the fashion department last night. Here are some of the biggest misses from the 63rd Grammys:
Phoebe Bridgers
Two questions for Phoebe Bridgers: Hey, which year is this? Why are we doing this? Clearly with the 63rd Grammys, Halloween came a tad too early for Phoebe and no, we don’t approve. Sadly, as weird as the entire Thom Browne dress was, the saggy skeleton embellishment just made it worse.
Doja Cat
A motorcycle-inspired leather bodice. A ruffled, feathery skirt dipped in lime green. The zipper detailing on the decollete area. God, if there was just one redeeming feature about Doja Cat’s bizarre Roberto Cavalli outfit! Let’s just not do this, please!
Noah Cyrus
Is it a bed? Is it a dress? Guess with Noah Cyrus’s Schiaparelli outfit, we’d never be able to tell. From an over-dramatic, 3-D cape to a weird drape detailing on the skirt, the straight-off-the-runway outfit had a lot going on that made us really, really uncomfortable. Let’s just say that she took a risk and it did not go well.
The Haim Sisters
When they say “custom Prada” does the brand let you customise as per your own whims? As in, can you ask the brand to make whatever, wear it to the Grammys, and then try and distract us with a fresh colour palette? Asking all this ‘coz looks like the Hain sisters tried doing just that with their wrinkled, ill-fitted Prada outfits. One more question: Why?
Julia Michaels
Julia Michaels black and white Georges Chakra Couture outfit is a half-assed design that we do not approve of. The entire slightly sheer, slightly over-embellished skirt situation isn’t working for us. The 3-D origami details on the skirt and the trail are just too much!
Hot Damn! The Grammy Red Carpet Hits
Though things might have been a little slow, fashion did have its highs at the 63rd Grammys. Well, thank God for some of the show-stopping looks from the Grammys red carpet last night that saved the first grand award night since the pandemic from falling on its face. Here are some of the definite red carpet hits:
Taylor Swift
She came, she trod the red carpet, and she conquered! Taylor Swift walked the red carpet last night with spring in her feet and her Oscar de la Renta mini dress definitely agreed. The perfectly on-brand dress featured applique flower detailing and the look was nicely matched up with Taylor’s pink Christian Louboutin heels. There is no missing out on the bow details on the darling shoes. The look was stunning and definitely going down in the Grammys’ history as one of the iconic ones.
Dua Lipa
Is it even an award night without at least one iconic naked dress in attendance? Break My Heart singer, Dua Lipa shouldered the responsibility of pulling off the most risque, most head-turning look at the 63rd Grammy awards and girl, did she do an amazing job! Her slinky Atelier Versace had details to die for. Especially under our radar is that butterfly motif detailing down the bodice! She finished off the look with diamond rings nicely complimenting the bedazzled gown. Killed it!
Ingrid Andress
The best new artist nominee Ingrid Andress turned on the alpha mode for the Grammys in an ivory Armani Prive look. Now, everyone gets credits for a well-structured pant suit. However, there exist brownie points for raising the stakes and Ingrid definitely scored all of them last night by swapping her undershirt with layered jewels. She finished off the look with stunning Chopard danglers and totally killed at the red carpet last night.
Jhene Aiko
With hardly any fails in her record, Jhene Aiko is a red carpet wonder who continued the winning streak in a two-piece Monsoori outfit last night. The bubblegum pink design comprised of a bandeau style one-shoulder top that was worn with a matching OTT skirt featuring frothy ruffles. The statement look has surely found its space in the Grammy’s hall of fame!
Maren Morris
Dressed in an embellished sating slip by Dolce&Gabbana, Maren Morris channeled some serious old-school Hollywood glam on the red carpet last night. From that plunging neckline to the whimsical trail, everything suggests royal drama and we are here for it!
So fam, which one of these red carpet looks really had you digging for it?
