A year ago from today, I was busy prepping for a Christmas party, a new year’s eve party, and booking tickets to some trips that I had scheduled for the first quarter of 2020. Obviously, as you can imagine, those trips were never made and the tickets were cancelled, all thanks to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
TBH, I believed my sob-story was quite dramatic until I read about people who had to alter, change, and cancel some of the most important events of their lives that they had planned for months and even years. One such case was of a Delhi-based bride, Gopalika Virmani. Daughter of runway choreographer Rashmi Virmani, she had extensively planned her dream wedding at Lake Como in Italy for more than six months that was earlier scheduled for April 2020. Back then, she had said, “I wanted to get married in Italy because I studied there and worked there for a while and it was close to my heart but my house is close to my heart too.”
Well, despite all the odds, Gopalika stayed more positive and finally tied the knot with her soulmate Dhruv Gurwara on November 30. Instead of Italy, the bride and groom chose to take their saat pheras in Agra with the majestic views of the Taj Mahal. Of course, the couple and their families were extra careful about the safety guidelines and every guest, as well as the hotel staff, had to quarantine for ten days before the wedding ceremonies and test negative for COVID-19. The newly-wed bride said, “We wanted it to be very, very safe. So that the time you wanted to take your mask off, you could do it without stress.”
The lovebirds have shared a teaser of their wedding video and it’s one of the most heart-warming things you will see on the internet today. Take a look –
The newly-weds have shared the inside pictures from their grand yet intimate wedding and we can’t help but say nazar na lagey! Take a look at these gorgeous pictures ‘cus we’re sure that they will make your day!
The Big Fat Punjabi Wedding
Gopalika is an art director and has designed concept shoots for a number of brands including Kama Ayurveda, Ridhi Mehra, Tarun Tahiliani and a lot more. Needless to say, her fashion sense is impeccable and her bridal look was as glorious as it could be. Take a look:
Paint It Red
Honestly, nowadays it’s quite refreshing to see a bride in the traditional red lehenga on her D-Day. Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love thy pastels and peach lehengas and their subtlety. But, there’s something about the traditional shades of red that intrigue us completely.
For her special day, Gopalika opted for a red-hued bridal lehenga by Sahil Kochar. We’re totally smitten by the handcrafted embroidery work that is intricately spread all over the attire. Finally, the light-net dupatta is giving the entire ensemble a perfect balance.
Dhruv, on the other hand, opted for a royal ivory sherwani and completed the look with a statement safa brooch.
Big, Bold, & Beautiful
We are definitely taking notes from Gopalika on how to carry such big and beautiful jewellery pieces without creating a chaotic look! From OTT maangtika to huge jhumkas, this stunning bride went all-in with her statement pieces and balanced it quite well by going easy on the makeup.
Neutral makeup with heavy jewellery? We’ve definitely made a note!
The Floral Deets
Unlike most of the brides, Gopalika opted for quite a simple hairdo on her wedding. She let them fall straight sans any gajra. The bride and groom opted for heavy floral garlands, complementing Gopalika’s red bridal joda.
The Vibrant Mehendi Pics
The newlyweds also shared their Mehendi pictures and honestly, we are floored! The vibrant dulha-dulhan and their infectious smiles are every bit adorable! Take a look:
The Sabyasachi Bride
For her Mehendi, GV opted for a Sabyasachi lehenga that was splashed with bold and stunning colours. The statement V-neck blouse had intricate floral work all over it while the skirt showcased a beautiful medley of all bright and subtle hues.
Dhruv, on the other hand, donned a majestic sherwani in shades of blue and looked a little extra cute while applying henna on his then soon-to-be bride!
Hairdo & Jewellery
Unlike her wedding, Gopalika experimented just a little with her hair on her Mehendi and opted for some light-weighted jewellery pieces. She neatly twisted her hair from the sides and donned an elegant pair of earrings and maangtika along with a comparatively heavier neckpiece.
Overall, we think that she let her Sabyasachi ensemble do all the talking and once again, we believe that it was quite a noteworthy move.
