Remember Baazigar? The film that normalised the concept of mainstream actors playing negative roles. It was one of the first films in Bollywood to star Shah Rukh Khan as a villain. The actor starred opposite Kajol (who he went on to become best friends with), and Shilpa Shetty. Though it was just Kajol’s second movie, she made quite an impact with her performance. And Shah Rukh Khan became a household name for his acting skills and a great sense of style, where on one hand, he wore glasses and had slicked back hair (can never forget that intellectual look), who on the other hand, played a laid-back fuckboi. All of this, back in 1993!
In a recent Instagram post, Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, Gauri Khan revealed that she was the one who styled the actor’s iconic look from the song, Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen. From the red shirt to the leg warmer print T-shirt and the hand-painted jeans, it was all Gauri Khan’s creative mind.
Gauri Khan shared this still from the song and wrote, “Can’t believe I designed this look in the 90s 😁 … Those jeans, #legwarmer tee, bullet belt and a red shirt thrown over. The hand painted jeans were my favourite. #Gaurikhandesigns has come a long way! Major throwback.. @iamsrk @kajol”
This 90s picture is giving us major throwback vibes! From the graphic T-shirt to the loose boyfriend shirts and ripped jeans, they’re all back in style now.
Gauri Khan’s come a long way since then, she owns one of the biggest interior designing studios in India and has designed spaces for Mukesh Ambani, Roberto Cavalli and Ralph Lauren. Gauri even had a stint in fashion designing, and is a co-chairman of the Bollywood production company, Red Chillies Entertainment.
BRB, gonna go watch Baazigar all over again.
