Frozen Aluminium Foil Works Like An Ice Globe — Just Cheaper

Frozen Aluminium Foil Works Like An Ice Globe — Just Cheaper

This hack was birthed in New York a couple of years ago — a fool-proof one that precedes the relevance of your pocket-tightening rollers, ice-globes and Gua Sha. Here’s how it all came together. MUA and brow-aficionado, Rami Gafni, was asked to rack his brains for a skincare-related hack that was absolutely original to him — a hack that had never been pitched by experts before. That’s when a handy tin foil came to his rescue, and the rest is history. Here’s what you need to know about this pocket-friendly hack, and why it’s resurfacing.

This One’s For The DIY-Loving Beauties With A Functional Freezer

Just Like An Ice Globe — You’ll See

All you need is foil and a freezer. Just cut holes for your eyes and nose from a sheet of aluminium/tin foil, and pop it in the freezer for about an hour — or until it has frozen. You can store it in the freezer overnight as well. The next step requires you to press the strip onto your face — form-fitting it to the contours of your face for about 10 minutes before stripping it off slowly.

What’s The Point, Though?

This hack isn’t new — which means that it precedes the popularity of rollers, Gua Sha, and ice-globes. But the principle remains the same — the temperature of the foil against your face will aid puffiness and swelling, tighten pores, even out your skin tone, and reinstate your glow. Just like an ice globe, the ‘cold’ of the foil will improve circulation, encourage lymphatic drainage, and constrict capillaries to firm and tighten the skin. If your under-eyes are particularly dark and inflamed after a day of excessive screen-time, or you suffer from sinuses and headaches in the A.M, you might benefit from popping a sheet in the freezer before sleeping and packing it onto your face before leaving for work.

Yes — This Is For You

This is for everyone who finds Bella Hadid’s ritual of dunking her face in a bowl of ice brutal — or for anyone who doesn’t want to invest in a roller or globe yet.

If It’s An Old Hack, Isn’t It Irrelevant?

Not at all. Rami continues to remain steadfast in his commitment to this hack — choosing the simplicity and relatability of a tin-foil in the era of rollers and globes. He told New Beauty recently, “I think keeping a sheet of foil in the freezer and moulding it to your face is as effective as many cooling devices on the market, and applying skin-care like a serum or firming gel before the tin foil is even more effective.” Gafni also mentions that this technique covers a larger surface area than rollers anyway.

Some Serums To Pair This Up With:

Just massage a few drops of one of these serums into your face, and layer the foil on top — essentially sandwiching the formula between your skin and mask, and enabling the elixir to seep into your pores seamlessly.
