The Celebs Are Suddenly Into This ’90s Controversial Lipstick Trend Again

You know that common saying: History tends to repeat itself? Well, when it comes to some of the hottest beauty trends of 2023, this saying has become a mantra. Between frosted eyeshadow, spiky buns, and French manicures, the ’90s and early-aughts trends are dominating both the red carpet and our IG feeds. The latest trend that’s making a return from the ’90s is a controversial one. You guessed it, frosted lipstick is officially having a moment, and we’ve seen it on our fave girl crushes this year.

From Hailey Bieber’s hot pink version to Zendaya’s icy pink pout and Beyonce’s brick red shimmery lip  – this beauty trend has been adopted by today’s hottest starlets, and we’re in on it. Ahead, we rounded up some of the best celebrity frosted lipstick trends, as well as the best-frosted lipsticks to try right now.

Frosted Lipsticks Are Having A Moment & We’re Not Mad About It

Hold on – this fad might bring back many makeup nightmares. Thankfully, this time around, the frosted lipstick trend is more subtle and wearable. Not to mention that the chalky, glitter-heavy formulas have been upgraded to sophisticated ones now. Today’s frosted lipsticks have newer, duo-chromed pigments that have better light reflectivity. They are also adapted to be hydrating on the lips, long-lasting, and smudge-proof — making this trend wearable for a night out or that casual lunch.

The 90s Are Calling!

As Jessica Biel demonstrates, the frosted lipstick trend can look subtle and understated. Makeup artist @nikki_makeup created this pink frosted lip look for Jessica Biel when she attended Dior’s menswear show in Paris recently. This look can be recreated using Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Lustre In Blondie, which has a shimmering pink finish.

Too Glamm To Give A Damn

Makeup artist Mary Phillips created this subtle frosted lip on JLo. This frosted lip looks bomb.com on Jennifer Lopez — and you can recreate this look with a rose-gold-peach tone lip gloss or lipstick. Put a high-shine lippie on for your next night out and you’re guaranteed to rake in compliments.

Keeping It Chic

For a more subtle take on the frosted lipstick shade, a sheer metallic lipstick looks great on top of your usual lipstick. We’re obsessed with model Elsa Hosk’s lipstick here. The sheen is subtle enough to not require a gloss and shiny enough to make your pout look fuller and kissable!

Kendall Is On Board, Too!

This nude frosted lipstick on Kendall Jenner flaunts extremely subtle metallic tones, which makes it very wearable. You can dial up any lipstick into a frosted lip look with sheer metallic lipstick. This one by Fenty Beauty is totally sheer, so it looks great worn alone or on top of any lipstick shade.

For Doll-Like Vibes

We’re bookmarking this frosted lip look worn by Maren Morris. It screams hot girl summer and is perf for all the glam-loving queens out there. Layering a nude lipstick up with a nude-ish gloss can work wonders and Maren is proof.

The Fuller, The Better

A metallic lipstick makes your lips look fuller and plump. Try patting it onto the middle of the lips for a modern take on the trend. This shimmering metallic lipstick looks great when worn alone or on top of lipstick.

Look! At! That!

We’re here for Ashley Graham’s nude lipstick with subtle flecks of gold. Add your favourite lip gloss to your cart to make a major style statement with the nuanced lustre on your pout.

It’s time to take that pout game to the next level!
