Senior BJP leader and former minister of external affairs, Sushma Swaraj, passed away yesterday at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. She was 67. She was admitted to the hospital after suffering from a cardiac arrest late last evening.
This beacon of light for many distinguished herself by making the power of social media her strongest weapon. Sushma Swaraj became the youngest cabinet minister at 25 when she joined the Haryana government in 1977. She was also the first woman chief minister of Delhi, a remarkable feat in itself, she also became a people’s favourite because of her humanitarian approach towards various issues.
Sushma Swaraj’s political career aside, she also helped Indians living abroad by addressing their issues on social media and providing them with all the necessary help. This set the leader apart from other politicians in her position. From helping Indian citizens who are troubled in foreign countries to giving her trolls the sassy responses they deserve, she was the crusader this internet-savvy generation needed. The loss of this legendary politician is one that India will find hard to get over with. In a series of tweets, many politicians and celebrities mourned the loss of this leader.

While politicians from across India are flying in to pay their respects, she will be kept at the party headquarters from 12 pm – 3 pm in Delhi. Post this, her last rites will be performed at the Lodhi Crematorium in New Delhi. The Delhi government has declared a two-day mourning in the national capital as a mark of respect to Sushma Swaraj.
The leader, who was tagged the ‘supermom’ of India by Washington Post will be missed for her exceptional courage and beautiful way with people.
