After the release of Chat GPT, AI has taken over almost every sphere of life. In a few years, our jobs will probably be redundant. But the good news is that AI is not just for sci-fi movies anymore. Whether you need help with content creation or research, AI is making many things easier for the general public.
I really wanted to explore how the beauty industry was using these new prompt-bots to their benefit, and apart from all the truly vile deepfake videos – many beauty websites have made shopping for skincare and makeup online an absolute breeze. So here’s a roundup of a few websites that have really been using technology to make the consumer experience more holistic – to keep you in the loop.
A Skincare Quiz That Goes Above And Beyond
PROVEN Skincare has the most comprehensive skincare quiz on its website. Now I’ve tried a lot of different ‘product recommendation’ quizzes over the past few months, but this one really took me by surprise. From asking if I was using any topical treatments to factoring in the climate I was currently in, this quiz hardly takes three minutes but gives you a whole list of primary ingredients you should be using in your skincare routine. It does suggest PROVEN products, but there’s enough information provided for you to go ahead and get products from other brands that have the ingredients the quiz suggests. You can take it here.
Don’t Know If Your Products Are Acne Safe? There’s A Website For That!
Acne Safe is an app created by Acne Clinic NYC. It has a simple interface but unbelievable results and has truly changed how I shop for acne-safe products. Just put in the list of ingredients of any product you have purchased or are considering purchasing, hit enter, and the algorithm tells you if the product is non-comedogenic. There’s also a list of unsafe ingredients that you can refer to if required. You can access the website here.
Personalised Makeup Recommendations From NARS
The NARS website has really been keeping up with the times, and they have many new features that are a lot of fun to try out if you have the time. From a foundation shade finder to a virtual makeup try-on to a one-on-one consultation with a NARS-certified MUA, they’ve made shopping for makeup online an absolute breeze. The rest are super easy and not comprehensive, but it’s a good way to familiarise yourself with beauty AI before it gets even more complicated. You can take all the quizzes here.
Get A Skin Test With Neutrogena Skin360®
Neutrogena was one of my go-to’s for a long time before I moved on to a different routine requiring more lightweight products. Unsurprisingly, they’re on top of their AI game with the Neutrogena Skin360®. The feature lets you scan your face, and after a few short questions, it suggests products for any issues you might be having. I loved this one since I didn’t have to put in much information, and it correctly assessed many of my skin cancers (like acne and dark circles) from three pictures. You can take the quiz here.
A Few Miscellaneous Advances
The rest of the skin analysis and virtual try-on websites are pretty basic, so I also wanted to cover a few physical advancements made in the world of skincare and makeup.
After COVID-19, brands like Clinique and Revlon invested in adding more antimicrobial tech to their makeup brushes. A little research into this area resulted in a pretty cool discovery! Clinique’s Foundation Buff Brush comes with woven antimicrobial technology (basically coating the bristles in a solution that kills bacteria), so you don’t have to wash it as often as you normally do.
Another cool development comes from Xcode Life – a company focused on epigenetics that helps you figure out your skincare and health concerns from the comfort of your home. All you have to do is – collect your saliva in a little bottle, mix a stabiliser, and fill up a fun booklet. They drop and pick it up from wherever you need, and you’ll have your results in a few weeks! There was a point where only the Kardashians could afford a DNA test, but with the advancement of technology, things like these tests are becoming more accessible than ever.
So, while AI’s rapid growth might feel intimidating at times, it’s undeniably enhancing our experience when it comes to beauty – it’s always exciting to think about what innovative solutions AI will bring to our vanities next!
