The ongoing conflict in Syria can only be described as one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Millions of people in the country have been killed or forced to flee their homes, and families are struggling to live in the country or make new homes in neighbouring countries.
According to a report by IANS, last week, over 500 people were killed by airstrikes and shelling conducted by forces loyal to the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad.
While several celebrities and influential people have spoken about the Syrian crisis in the past, it’s Bollywood actress Esha Gupta‘s tweet on the conflict that has made headlines recently.
“I don’t care which country or religion or government I have, humanity is dying. The children are dying and it needs to stop, now” Esha tweeted, with a picture of a child.

On Monday, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, demanded that a 30-day ceasefire in Syria drafted by the Security Council should come into effect and called for an end to the “hell on earth” in Eastern Ghouta, a rebel-held Damascus suburb that has been the target of an intense bombing campaign in recent days.
“Eastern Ghouta cannot wait, it is high time to stop this hell on earth,” Guterres told the Council, pleading for a facilitation of humanitarian aid deliveries and evacuations of sick and wounded from the besieged network of small towns and satellite cities mere kilometres from Damascus, where roughly 400,000 people are estimated to be living.
But of course, no gesture of positivity is ever complete without the presence of internet trolls burrowing their way to spreading hate. The army of internet warriors descended upon Esha’s tweet and criticised her for being ignorant about India’s problems, among other things.

Being the person that she is, Esha was not about to take all this negativity lying down, and hit back at the trolls in the best way that she could.
