One of the most defining features of OTT platforms is the freedom they offer to the creators. Unlike the limitation of the silver screen and television, digital platforms enjoy a no-fuss space where there are very few guidelines. However, does it mean every OTT show has to push the limits with intimate scenes and language? Or is it just another tool to grab eyeballs and create social media buzz?
We aren’t the only ones asking these questions as telly star Erica Fernandes also feels the same way. In a recent interview, the actress spoke about her decision to stay away from OTT platforms and ‘forced intimacy’ in the shows. Erica said, “There are lovely characters on many online platforms but then there are some projects which have intimacy in it and some of them are forced. However, if it is really important in a project then I might consider it, but I have my own restrictions and will not be comfortable doing certain things.”
“This was the reason I had to turn down many web shows because the level of intimacy was a bit too much for me and it is tough to wait for roles which are good and have less intimacy involved,” added Kasautii Zindagii Kay actress.
We totally agree with Erica on this—intimacy in a show needs to suit the requirement of the script and it should feel authentic. The objective behind such scenes should be to present human connection and vulnerabilities.
While we might not see Erica in an OTT show soon, she is planning to make her way to a reality show. Without confirming any names, the actress said, “It will depend on which reality show it is. I am not the type of person who would want to be locked up in a house.”
We are sure Erica would slay if she ever decides to appear in an OTT show, but we totally respect her decision. You do you, girl!
