A highly-anticipated weekend has our Instagram abounding with celebrity-approved, spooky-season manicures, throat-cutting bat-eyes, and blood-drenched lips. Hailey has whittled her nails into all-black almond-shaped tips, and Kylie has accented her pout with a sultry lip-piercing. M.G.K’s lacquers are on the precipice of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest nails, and so much is happening right this second. While your makeup and manicures have been supplied with a lot of fodder this past month, it’s the hair that demands a little bit of attention. We’ve curated a round-up of the different ways you can style your mane this Halloween 2022 depending on your mood — from minimal to dramatic, there’s a lot to choose from. Check ’em out!
These Hairdos Can Make Or Break Your Goddamn Costume
The ‘Do That Will Turn Your World Upside Down
Ever heard of upside-down braids? Part your hair down the middle, and create an upside-down three-way French braid — you can do this by dividing your hair into two parts at the bottom, and braiding each one through to the top. Secure the braid with a hair tie, and wrap the ends into a bun on either side of the head. Tie it all together with the spiders — stickers or pins — and you’re done.

Harley Quinn Never Goes Out Of Style
Harley Quinn’s two-toned ponytails are iconic, and they’re easy to recreate as well. Begin with a centre part — let some face-framing chunks cascade down the sides of your face — and form two sky-high ‘dos at the top of your head. Add temporary hair dye to either side — blue and pink as demonstrated in this example — or add some coloured clip-on extensions depending on your preferences.

A Bubble Braid That Bubbles More Than Normal
This Gen Z-approved ‘do is all kinds of extra. Start off with the pigtails — separate the bottom half of your hair into two chunks of equal thickness, and secure them with elastics to create low-hanging ponytails on both sides. The placement of elastics for this style depends on the length of your hair. Add an elastic one inch from the original one, and add another one after — continue till the end of your tresses. You don’t have to maintain an equal distance between the elastics — notice how Olivia’s are placed randomly. Use your fingers to pull at every section to fluff it up. This will loosen the braid, and create a bubble-like effect. Repeat the same with the top half of your hair and you’re done.

Redheads Do It Better. Ask Ariel.
To recreate Ariel’s ‘do, spritz your hair with temporary red hair-dye, and part your hair to the side. Pin a chunk of it back with a couple of starfish-looking clips, and conclude with some hairspray to hold the style in place.

It’s The Hour Of The Devil
Devil horns? Yes. Part your hair down the middle, and create two pigtails at the front. Dampen both sides to make them a little less stubborn, and wrap the length around the hair-tie into buns while keeping the pigtails flat — this will help them adhere to the shape of a cone rather than a donut. Play around with the tip to make it pointy, and pull on the pigtail for it to come into shape even better. Set it with hairspray, and repeat on the other side. You can douse your hair in red hair dye to play into the spookiness of it all.
Right Off The Bat…This One’s The Simplest
A low-hanging, sleek ponytail might not scream ‘Halloween’ right off the bat; but it sure can. Tie all of your hair back in a pony, and use some serum to settle any frizz and flyaways. Secure the ‘do with a hair-tie, and use orange and black clip-on extensions to wrap around the base of the ponytail. You’re already halfway there. Embellish the back of your hair with Halloween-themed hair accessories like bats and gems, and you’re done.

Zipper
Create two micro-braids with the face-framing chunks of your hair, and pin them along the sides of your centre part. Secure the back with a few hair-pins, and tuck the base of the zipper under the back of the braid. Continue tucking under the sides of the braid, and your zipper has been fastened!
