Calling All DIY Queens: How To Make Your Own Nail Polish

Calling All DIY Queens: How To Make Your Own Nail Polish

Just like lipsticks, you can never have too many nail polishes. Even if you do get your manicures done at the salon, having an at-home stash of polishes is just a right of passage. The same goes for eyeshadow palettes; you can’t have just one and they don’t even get over that quickly unless you are a really busy makeup artist. While nail polishes seem to have longer shelf lives, you can’t say the same for eyeshadows. Eyeshadow palettes can break and even expire which would then make it unsafe to use. But that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to those eye shades just yet. There also has to be a few shades on your palettes that you never really use and they just stay there untouched, but that can all change.

If you are ready to give your eyeshadows new life, repurpose them to create a custom nail polish. Yes, you read that right! It’s super easy to create and the results are fabulous. Here’s an easy step-by-step tutorial on how to create a new nail polish by using your old eyeshadows.

How To Make It

Step1: Make Some Room

Empty out a bit of your clear polish to make room for the eyeshadow. If you have already used your clear polish a bit before, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Crush Down

Select the eyeshadow you wish to repurpose and crush it up in the pan with a cuticle pusher. Make sure you get a thin powder by breaking up all clumps of eyeshadow in the pan.

Step 3: Pour It Up

Roll up your sheet of paper to form a funnel and use it to transfer your crushed eyeshadow powder to the clear nail polish bottle. You will notice the powder settles to the bottom.

Step 4: Shake It Off

Screw on the cap of the clear nail polish bottle and shake it up so that the clear polish and eyeshadow powder combine together. This will only take a few seconds and then you’re done.

Pro Tips

If you want a more sheer nail polish shade, use less crushed eyeshadow powder, and if you want more opaque nail polish, you can go in with the entire pan. You can even customise your nail polish colour by using more than one eyeshadow shade, so go crazy.
