You will need:
- 1 teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar
- ¼ teaspoon of baking soda
- 4 cardamom pods
- 3 tablespoons of milk powder, yogurt, and khoya
- Ghee for frying
- ½ cup of sugar
- ¼ cup of water
- ½ lemon juice
- 3 strands of saffron
Cooking instructions:
- In a bowl, mix milk, flour, sugar, fennel seeds, crushed cardamom pods, and milk powder.
- Add khoya and yogurt to the flour mixture and stir well. Now add some water to the batter to form a smooth consistency. Set it aside for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the sugar syrup by adding water and sugar in a heavy bottom pan, and simmering it until the sugar melts completely.
- After the sugar dissolves, add lemon juice, and saffron strands, and stir well to combine.
- In another pan, add two tablespoons of ghee and heat it. Pour a spoonful of batter, and gently spread to form small-sized pancakes. Fry the malpuas until they are golden brown.
- Take the malpuas off the heat and dip them into the sugar syrup. Serve them hot with other snacks to the entire family.
Badam Halwa
You can never go wrong with this classic dessert. It is a perfect after-Diwali dinner dessert and is loved by toddlers and adults alike.
You will need:
- 1 ½ cups of blanched almonds
- 5-6 green cardamom pods
- 2 cups of water
- 4-5 strands of saffron
- ½ cup of milk and sugar
- ¼ cup of coconut oil
Cooking instructions:
- Blend the almonds with two cups of water in a food processor until you get a smooth consistency.
- Cook the almond paste in a heavy bottom pan until it thickens.
- Add sugar and stir to combine well.
- Now add milk and keep stirring the mixture.
- Once the milk has been combined, add coconut oil and stir until the mixture becomes thick and lumpy.
- Finally, add cardamom and saffron strands, and stir again.
- Serve the halwa hot, or cool it down, and cut them up in diamond shapes for some extra fun presentation.
Milk Pedha
This sweet is fairly simple to make, and you can even encourage your toddler to participate in the cooking process. This way you can teach them a new skill, and also spend some quality time with your little one.
You will need:
- ½ tablespoon of ghee
- 200 gm of condensed milk
- A pinch of nutmeg powder and saffron
- ¾ cup of milk powder
- 3-4 cardamom pods
Cooking instructions:
- Take a microwave-safe bowl, and mix milk powder, condensed milk, and ghee in it. Microwave the ingredients on high for a minute.
- Add saffron, cinnamon, and nutmeg powder to the mix, and microwave for another 2-3 minutes, until the paste thickens.
- Apply ghee on your palm and roll the dough into small balls. Flatten them slightly and refrigerate.
Besan Laddoo
Laddoos are a crowd-favourite and a perfect sweet recipe for kids. As they are simple to make, you can even make a few extras, and surprise your neighbours with the sweet.
You will need:
- ½ cup of ghee
- 2 cups of besan
- ¾ cup of powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon of raisins and chopped cashews
- 4een cardamom pods
- Cashew halves for garnishing
Cooking instructions:
- Heat the ghee in a wok and add besan to it. Roast it for around 6-7 minutes on low flame, until the colour changes.
- Add sugar to the mix, and stir for another 7 minutes. Make sure the mixture isn’t sticking to the pan.
- Add raisins, cashews, and cardamom powder, and mix well.
- Set the mixture aside to cool.
- Make small-sized balls out of the mixture and serve them hot along with other snacks.
Pistachio Kulfi
This is another perfect Diwali sweet recipe that will help your toddler cool off after all the Diwali party fun and games.
You will need:
- 3 liters of milk
- ½ cup of sugar
- ¼ cup of pistachios, almonds, and cashews
- 2 teaspoons of cardamom powder
- 2 tablespoons of poppy seeds
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- 8-10 black peppercorns
Cooking instructions:
- Take the ingredients of the kulfi paste and make a paste using some water.
- Take a heavy bottom saucepan and bring the paste to a boil. Milk boils, reduce the heat, and simmer for another 30 minutes until it comes down to half by its quantity.
- Add sugar and mix until it dissolves completely.
- Add the kulfi paste and give it a nice stir.
- Turn off the heat, and set the mixture aside to cool.
- Pour the mix into kulfi molds, and refrigerate for over 10 hours.
- When done, take the kulfi off the mold, and serve.
Chocolate Barfi

You will need:
- ¾ cups of sugar
- 2 1/2 cups of condensed milk or crumbled khoya
- ⅛ teaspoon of cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon of rose water and cocoa powder
- Few drops of vegetable oil
Cooking instructions:
- Heat the khoya in a saucepan and ensure to stir it continuously.
- When the khoya warms, add sugar, cardamom powder, and rose water.
- Continue stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture achieves a halwa-like consistency.
- Cook until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan and becomes lumpy.
- Let the mixture cool down and then divide it into two parts. Knead the mix to form a smooth dough and flatten it slightly to give it a square shape.
- Add cocoa powder to the other part and knead to make a smooth dough.
- Place the first layer, and then gently place the cocoa layer over it, and press.
- Refrigerate for about 30 minutes and then cut into small pieces.
