Netflix’s recent release The Romantics is a treat for cinephiles like me. There were so many interesting revelations in the four-part series that made me do a double take. But my favourite bit was Ranveer Singh’s emotional confession that he almost missed the chance to make his Bollywood debut. Can you even imagine how empty our lives would have been without Ranveer?
It all started when Ranveer got the attention of Yash Raj Films’ casting director Shanoo Sharma. She was instantly impressed with his acting skills. When Aditya Chopra was on a hunt for a new face for Band Baaja Baaraat, Shanoo suggested Ranveer’s name. But then came the twist!
Aditya Chopra Wasn’t Impressed With Ranveer
Aditya admitted on The Romantics that he didn’t like Ranveer in the first go. The filmmaker said, “He really didn’t look good. I fired Shanoo. I asked her, ‘What’s wrong with you?” It all changed when Aditya saw Ranveer’s acting tape. The funny part was Ranveer missed Aditya’s call for their first meeting. But luckily the actor got the memo on time and the rest is history.
On The Romantics, Ranveer got teary-eyed when he spoke about his first meeting with Aditya. The actor had jitters while performing in front of the filmmaker but Aditya helped him. “He (Aditya) told me, ‘When I saw your audition, I saw a 25-year career in front of me. I’ve not seen an audition like that,” said the Lootera star.
I honestly believe that Aditya Chopra has a sixth sense when it comes to picking future superstars of Bollywood. Remember how he predicted that Shah Rukh Khan will be the king of romance?
Looking Back At Ranveer’s Debut Film
Ranveer was fresh off the boat in Bollywood when he landed his first film with YRF—Band Baaja Baaraat. The film was a massive success and Ranveer instantly shot to stardom. Aditya knows how to get the best out of his actors! Since then Ranveer has been delivering one hit after another.
