Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi recently unveiled the poster of their upcoming movie Merry Christmas. The film is slated to release on December 15 and their fans are super excited. But, there’s a catch. We are going to witness a big box office clash! As it turns out, Karan Johar’s Yodha, starring Sidharth Malhotra, is also releasing on the same date. And it looks like the makers of Merry Christmas might have already irked Karan Johar.
Here, let us give you some context. Hours after the team of Merry Christmas announced the official release date, Karan took to Threads to share a cryptic post. The filmmaker expressed his displeasure over the clash and also shared how they should stand united during challenging theatrical days. He wrote, “Clashing on a date without the courtesy of a phone call is hopefully not the way forward for the studios and producers …. If we don’t stand united in these tough and challenging theatrical days then calling us a fraternity is futile….“
Well, Karan does seem upset. But people in the comment section were quick to point out how he did the same. One wrote, “And not to forget you too clashed with ajay’s shivaay and even released simbaa just a week post zero. So it’s fine karan movies do clash it’s normal.”
While another commented, “Where was the fraternity and all the support when he clashed ADHM with Shivaay? And where was it when there was negativity surrounding Zero with Simba? Now, he’s releasing his new film before Dunki. It’s ironic, to say the least.”
What Exactly Happened?
Katrina and Vijay launched the posters of Merry Christmas on July 17. The vintage style poster had a tagline ‘Raat jitni sageen hogi, subah utni rageen hogi’, and was shared on Instagram with a caption, “We decided to cut short the wait for the Christmas cheer! #MerryChristmas releasing in theatres near you ON 15th DECEMBER 2023.” Further, the film has been shot in two languages, Hindi and Tamil. Katrina and Vijay will be headlining both versions. This is also the first time that the audience will see them together in a film. Apart from them, the Hindi version will have Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand. Whereas Radhika Sarathkumar, Shanmugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams will be seen in the Tamil version.
Karan’s Dharma Productions announced the release date of Yodha earlier this month. They released a statement on Instagram that said, “Re-fueled and ready to soar! #YODHA – the first action film of the franchise headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and directed by debutant duo Sagar Ambre & Pushkar Ojha – lands in cinemas on 15th DECEMBER, 2023. The film also stars Disha Patani & Raashii Khanna in lead roles,” Furthermore, the film revolves around an airplane hijack, where a soldier saves the passenger from terrorists.
Now all this drama is certainly making us excited for the ultimate showdown.
