Remember when we told you that the makers of Anupama were planning to create a prequel to the hit daily soap? Well, it’s official now. Disney+ Hotstar recently dropped the teaser of the upcoming series called Anupama—Namaste America on its social media handle and honestly, we have mixed feelings about it. This will be the first time that an Indian TV show will be releasing its own prequel on an OTT platform with the same cast. Well, we’re equal parts excited and nervous about it.
As per the video, the prequel will take us 17 years back into Anupama’s life and explain how her world changed after one major decision. “17 saal pehle ki ansuni kahani hai, jisne 28 saal ki Anupama ki zindagi badal di,” Rupali Ganguly, the show’s protagonist, can be heard saying in the clip. Sooooo…what happened 17 years ago? Alright, we did some basic mathematics and y’all can thank us later. As per Anupama’s narrative, Anu got married to Vanraj when she was around 18 years old. They stayed as a couple for a little more than 25 years. Also, Anuj has been in love with Anu for the past twenty-six years and left for the USA after witnessing her wedding.
The new show will give us an insight into Anu’s life, after 10 years of her marriage. There are high chances that the ‘big decision’ that Rupali is talking about in the teaser has something to do with Anuj. After all, the prequel is being called Anupama—Namaste America and he’s the only integral character on the show linked to the US.
Did Anu get a chance to fulfill her professional dreams but had to turn them down because of her toxic family? Ugh…we hope that we don’t have to see her doormat version again because it’s really exhausting. Also, did Anu have a connection with Anuj even before she knew about it? That would make so much sense!
Well, all these questions are really making us anxious. We hope that we get all our answers from April 25 on Disney+ Hotstar.
