2020 has a silver lining, it seems. In a major win, Delhi Crime brought home an award for the Best Drama Series at the recently concluded 48th International Emmy Awards. In keeping with the ongoing virtual ceremonies, the Emmys too, followed the same protocol this year, with attendees tuning in to participate. This is the first time in its history that the awards witnessed a virtual format.
A Stellar Cast
It’s certainly a big win for the series on an international platform. At the Emmy’s, it was nominated alongside Argentina’s The Bronze Garden, Germany’s Charité 2 and Criminal UK.
Written and directed by Richie Mehta and starring honed artists, Shefali Shah, Rasika Duggal, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang, Yashaswini Dayama, Jaya Bhattacharya and Anurag Arora, a few amongst a stellar star cast, the gripping series follows an investigation into a gang rape in the capital. While it draws from instances that seem all too familiar, commenting in a subtle manner about the social fabric of the country, the crime series is one to be categorised as fiction and is up for the viewing on Netflix, should you have missed it.
Shefali Shah, who plays the titular role of DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, shared a video of hers on Instagram where she could be heard celebrating the Emmys win. Scroll to take a look at her reaction.
Earlier, she had shared a snapshot of the nomination, with a hopeful caption. “Fingers, toes, intestines, crossed!” the actress had written.
While Delhi Crime emerged as the winner in the category, the Emmys this year saw a lot of other nominations from India. The web series Four More Shots Please found itself a nomination for the Best Comedy Series while Arjun Mathur, who played a lead role in the series Made in Heaven, was nominated in the Best Actor category.
