For the first time in many years, Deepika Padukone has opened up about her relationship with her ex. Without taking any names, she revealed how her ex “begged” in front of her for forgiveness when she caught him cheating on her (no points for guess who is she talking about).
Now, we all know Deepika has been in a serious relationship with Ranbir Kapoor. However, both Ranbir and Deepika have moved on in life and it looks like, there are no hard feelings after the breakup. In fact, they have worked together and have been spotted hanging out together with their new partners. So, when DP talks about a certain ex, we’re intrigued. Aren’t you? Let’s dig deeper, shall we?
The Chhapaak actress spoke about being emotionally invested in the person she was dating. “For me, sex is not just about physicality; there are emotions involved. I have never cheated or strayed when I’m in a relationship. If I’m going to be fooling around, why would I be in a relationship? It’s better to be single and have fun. But not everyone thinks like that,” said DP in a recent interview with an entertainment website.
She also stressed how she was ‘”foolish enough” to give her ex a second chance. She further said, “Maybe that’s why I’ve been hurt in the past. I was foolish enough to give him a second chance because he begged and pleaded, despite the fact that everyone around me said he was still straying. Then I actually caught him red-handed.”
The Piku actress also opened up about how it took her a while to get out of the emotional trauma. In the interview, DP also said, “It took me a while to get out (of the betrayal). But having done that, nothing can make me go back. That ship has sailed.”
Deepika was also diagnosed with depression in 2014, months after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani hit the theatres. According to media reports, working with Ranbir had taken a toll on her. The actress has also been vocal about her struggle with mental health, telling her story time and again to increase dialogue around depression and therapy.
“The first time he cheated on me, I thought there was something wrong with the relationship, or me. But when someone makes a habit of it, you know the problem lies with him. I give a lot in relationships, and don’t really expect much in return,” said Deepika. She even went on to say that “Infidelity is the deal-breaker. Once it comes in, respect goes away, trust goes away and these are the pillars of a relationship you can’t f*ck around with it.”
Deepika’s relationship with Ranbir ended back in 2009 when he was working on Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani with Katrina Kaif. Deepika remained single for years after that until she fell in love with Ranveer Singh. The two tied the knot in November 2018. Ranbir, on the other hand, is currently dating actor Alia Bhatt and the two are rumoured to be getting married later in December this year after the release of their movie Brahmastra. It is also worth noting how the equation between these two couples has turned quite comfortable with time. Not only do we see these four sitting next to each other at award functions but they are also often spotted chilling together at parties.
