6 Criminally Underrated Skincare Products Under ₹600

Product recommendations on the internet can be a hit or miss, especially regarding skincare. There seems to be a new launch every day; from celebrity-backed brands to old favourites – everyone’s coming up with a variety of products to stay relevant. But just because a product is trending, does not mean you need to buy it.

I’ve been a big skincare consumer for the past few years and there are a lot of criminally underrated products I never really get the chance to talk about. So here’s a list of five beloved products that work just as well as they claim to, all under Rs. 500.

6 Criminally Underrated Skincare Finds

Let’s go in the order of a holistic skincare routine. The first step is investing in a good facewash that can make your skin go from 0 to 100 real quick. I strongly recommend the Bioderma Sebium Gel Moussant Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel (for Combination to Oily Skin) as your second step in a double cleansing routine. Alternatively, if you have dry to normal skin, you can use this as the first step. It does a great job at cleansing any buildup without harming your skin barrier.

Next, serums. Now I hate using face scrubs since I’m always afraid that the grainy residue will stay on my skin and cause more acne. Instead, I include a few gentle, exfoliating serums in my night routine to make sure my skin stays oil and bacteria-free for as long as possible. One of my basic favourites is the Minimalist’s Salycylic Acid serum – it’s easy to incorporate into any routine, works pretty effectively, and does not dry your skin out to the point of no return.

Next, hydration. The Shoyo Hydrating Emolene Cream is one moisturiser that works so well it’s hard to believe. It’s super gentle yet tremendously moisturising and gives your skin a glowy, plum facade. The texture itself is extremely heavy and greasy, so I do not recommend it for acne prone skin – but if you have dry flaky skin on your face or body, this is truly a game-changer.

I wanted to include a non-comedogenic moisturiser for all my acne girlies. The Lacto Calamine Face Lotion (for Combination to Normal skin) contains kaolin clay which helps balance your oil levels. The extra addition of aloe vera makes sure your skin remains hydrated and too much oil is not stripped off. I’m on my third bottle and there’s nothing that can control my sebum better after a sweaty day in the sun.

What’s a skincare routine without sunscreen, right? One product that works on every skin type and can even be applied to the hair, is the MyGlamm POPxo Beach Bum Ultra-Light Sunscreen Spray SPF 50. It is travel-friendly, easy to use, smells incredible, and leaves no whitecast. All for a steal deal!

Last, a jack of all trades – Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. We all know Vaseline, but do you know the variety of ways you can use Vaseline? I’ve used it as a cleanser for waterproof mascara, as a moisturiser when I’m in a fix, as an overnight lip mask and for slugging.

This is a pretty basic list – but these are all products that I know and love. I’ve been using them for years and they’ve really improved the texture and tone of my very sensitive skin. I’m sure you’ve used a few before, so use this as a sign to revisit some old favourites – there’s a reason you began to love them in the first place!
