Looking back at 2017, we’ve seen some pretty revolutionary beauty launches globally and in the Indian market too! A lot of international brands came knocking on our door and brought in some pretty unconventional products. The Indian beauty industry is at its peak, and we at POPxo Beauty, are absolutely stoked! Some of our most loved products have just gotten more accessible. We collated a list of some of the coolest brands and products that launched in 2017 and had us jumping with joy. Check em’ out!
1. 2017, the LIT year
2017 can best be described as the LIT year, we saw a boom of highlighters. Everyone was either lit from within or lit AF there was rarely a middle ground. Guilty as charged! We saw some pretty funky highlighters like the Makeup Revolution Unicorn Highlighter, The NYX Professional Makeup Strobe Of Genius Holographic Stick. Some of them blinding, a few subtle. The most Instagrammed highlighter that launched in 2017 was Farsali Jelly Beam Highlighter.
2. Cushion Compacts
A Korean beauty staple; cushion foundations are a great mix of pressed powder and foundation. Since it’s wet, cushion foundations provide medium coverage and are great on-the-go. We tried L’Oreal Paris True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation (Rs 1,250) and The Face Shop CC Intense Cover Cushion (Rs 1,690) and we weren’t dissapointed.
3. Multi-Taskers To The Rescue
Undeniably one of the best brands for a primer all over the USA, Smashbox made itself a home in Sephora stores across India. Our most favourite product had to be the Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer (Rs 2,950). It’s a primer, a moisturiser, all in one. YES! Eliminate that clutter on your vanity and look out for products that do more than just ONE thing. The Estée Lauder Pure Color Love One Stroke Ombre Lipstick (Rs 1,900), is another one of those products that combine a lip liner and a lipstick in one! They make life and travel easy… not to mention the money you end up saving! *wink*
4. Sheets Masks For Every Woe
Another Korean beauty staple for their trademark glass-like skin, sheet masks have made their way to India with a BANG! We’ve now got Snail Slime sheet masks on the market and we have our Sunday-Funday all planned out. If you’ve been living in a bubble, snail slime is one of the BEST and weirdest K-beauty ingredient for working all sorts of black magic on your skin. (The good kind of course!) If you’re not exactly up for putting any sort of slime on your face, check out The Face Shop Bestseller Mask Sheet Set. Luckily for you, sheet masks are always on sale, look out for some pretty cool offers on Nykaa.
5. Micellar Water To Save The Day!
Micellar water had its claim to fame in 2017 with brands like Garnier, Maybelline, L’Oreal among others launching this magical make-up removing water. If you’re still in your bubble, micellar water is an innovative non-greasy, lightweight make-up melting ninja. Your toughest waterproof mascara doesn’t stand a chance! The affordable micellar water includes L’Oreal Paris Infused Water (Rs 336) Garnier Skin Naturals Micellar Water (Rs 225).
6. Pizza Cutter Eyeliners. YEP.
M.A.C hogged the spotlight for a while and broke Instagram with its pizza cutter eyeliner. The M.A.C Rollerwheel Liquid Liner (Rs 2,090) has a wheel to draw on your cat eyes. We still can’t decide whether we’d like to love or forget this one but it was right up there on our lists for one of the coolest beauty launches!
7. Instagram filter, IRL!
We’ve moved from Facebook to Snapchat to Instagram. But something hasn’t changed! Amidst all those apps, you’ve got filters transforming you into a flawless princess. In 2017, the world of beauty exploded with foundations claiming to be your BeautyPlus in a bottle! Beauty guru Huda Kattan launched her #FauxFilter Foundation. This baby claims to cover up the worst blemish you’ve ever had giving you nothing short of a perfect, flawless face. Pop icon Rihanna too launched her very own line of make-up this year under the name of Fenty Beauty. Her Pro Filtr’ Foundation (Rs 2,160) claims to instantly blur out your imperfections giving you an airbrushed look! If you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, check out Wet n Wilds’ Photo Focus foundation (Rs 539); it essentially does the same thing.
9. Clay Masks Were Big in 2017!
Clay just took a whole new turn in beauty this year. Every brand added clay as an ingredient in their products reaping maximum benefits from this superstar. A quick google search yields thousands of clay masks claiming to cleanse, tone, mattify and detox your pores. While we’ve forever raved about the beauty benefits of good ol’ Multani Mitti we also LOVE the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment (Rs 1,600) for problematic skin. It’s got some diamond dust that smacks acne and blemishes, pores and oiliness at their root. Since this one’s pretty pricey – we recommend using this ONLY on problematic areas of the face. Use the L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Mask (Rs 1,700) on other areas of your face and you’ll be on your way to being a multi-masking diva.
10. Customised Foundations
Raise your hands if you’ve ended up buying the wrong shade of foundation more than once! Customising your foundation is a pretty routine hack used daily in the life of make-up artists. You can be your own beauty chemist with The Body Shop’s Shade Adjusting Drops (Rs 1,595). They will lighten and darken your foundation so you never have to step out the door with cake-face ever again!
We can’t wait to see 2018 has in store!
