10 Celebrities Who Showed Us How Amazing Female Friendships Can Be

We celebrated Women’s Day on 8th March with all the aplomb it needs. But the thing is that we shouldn’t stop celebrating women (or men, for that matter) throughout the year. Since female friendships and relationships constantly get a bad reputation, we need more positive examples of strong female role models lifting each other up. Let’s show the world that the strongest support for women can be, and are, women themselves. After all, nobody can understand the struggles of a woman like a fellow female can. Thankfully, we do have some examples in the mainstream media where women stood up for other women and helped them through a thick spot.

1. When Sonam Kapoor helped Jacqueline Fernandez avoid a wardrobe malfunction.

At an award function party, Jacqueline had a fashion faux pas moment when her zip came undone. Sonam quickly ran to her best friend’s rescue to help her before any damage happened. Talk about besties saving the day.

2. When a whole bunch of women helped hide Kylie’s pregnancy from the media.

For a family who bases their fame on living life in front of the camera, it was a huge deal when a whole bunch of women, Kylie’s best friends, were able to hide her pregnancy from the camera.

3. When Momina Mustehsan shut up the trolls slut-shaming Mahira Khan

Mahira Khan was slut-shamed collectively by the internet when her pictures of smoking surfaced. Momina Mustehsan quickly jumped to her defence and tweeted in her favour saying “Jesus. Can we please give @TheMahiraKhan a break?! Why are we so quick to judge and attack?! Esp if it’s a woman in question. It’s her life!”

Katrina Kaif really does seem like a pretty cool friend to have. They usually go like this ‘You know babe, you’re doing great? I’m really proud of you.” “Thanks, babe. Love you too. Bye.”

5. When Priyanka Chopra spoke about Meghan Markle’s achievements…

… rather than just her relationship status. When at a show, Meghan Markle was referred to as “Prince Harry’s girlfriend”, Priyanka Chopra corrected the host and said, “Also, Meghan Markle, actress, Suits, her own achievements.” This is the perfect case in point for feminism. Is anyone taking notes?

6. When Selena Gomez’s best friend donated a kidney to her

Francia Raisa, an actress, went on to donate a kidney to Selena when she was fighting the disease, Lupus. This is true sisterhood.

7. When Richa Chadha told people to back off Swara Bhaskar

Swara Bhaskar’s open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali got her a lot of flak from the media and the viewers, but one person who came out strongly in support of Swara was Richa Chadha.
