Butterfly Bridges Is The Most Ethereal Trend To Hit The ‘Gram

Pairs of colour-clad eyes have declared themselves show-stoppers of this year’s edition of the New York Fashion Week — waltzing down runways in waves of self-expression and colour. They’ve cemented the eyes as their canvas — unravelling all over the crescent of the inner corners in a display of chaos and generosity. This riot of colour is projected to snowball into of the biggest trends of 2023 — but you heard it here first. Ahead — what this butterfly bridges eye makeup trend is, and why we’re hooked. Thanks, N.Y.F.W — we’re indebted to you.

It’s Like You Have The Wings Of A Butterfly

It spans the inner corners of the eye graciously before receding to the crevices of the nose as well as the under-eye — it’s almost like the eyes have been endowed with wings on the inside. These models display splashes of purple and blue on the lids.

Notice how this model’s aesthetic is a little more pronounced than the previous — with colour migrating to the area above the eyebrows. If you’ve heard of ‘draping‘ — a technique that involves applying blush in the shape of a ‘C’ around the eyes and cheeks — you might find that this is a little like that. The difference is that the colours flourish on the inside instead of the outside.

This trend was first modelled at this year’s edition of New York Fashion Week by a genderless, Detroit-bred fashion label called Deviate — iterations are yet to follow, and Instagram’s going to abound with them soon enough. The MUA behind the look, Kabuki, is a painter by profession and confirmed that his artistic capabilities played a role in birthing this aesthetic.

MUA Laura Yard showcased her interpretation of the trend recently. She doused the model’s eyes in colour — with a scintillating silver reclining atop the inner corners before lending itself to the sides of the nose, under-eyes, upper lids, and cheekbones. This was one a little more elaborate but the intensity was contained by the subtlety of the shade.

What’s the verdict? Do we like this runway beauty aesthetic?
