Weddings these days have become much smaller and virtual, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. But that hasn’t stopped brides from making their wedding day memorable and special. From planning an intimate shaadi surrounded by your loved ones to getting engaged on a video call, we’ve witnessed several couples adjusting to the new normal. But today, the bride in focus is the one who did something extraordinary at her wedding, and we’re so inspired.
Meet Noorjahan Khatun, a bride from West Bengal who chose to have a socially responsible wedding, instead of just throwing a party. On Monday (September 14), Noorjahan, who is a school teacher by profession, organised a blood donation camp in Nadia district to celebrate the eve of her wedding day, keeping the rising number of COVID-19 patients in mind. Yep, you can go back and read that again! Talking to a media portal, she said, “I had heard that blood banks were running dry amid the COVID-19 crisis. This was my small effort to help people during medical emergencies.”

At least 32 people including her family members and neighbours donated blood in the camp that was set up just outside Noorjahan’s residence. Being happy to have associated with the cause, Noorjahan’s father Rustam Ali Sheikh said that he was more than willing to arrange everything when she asked him to.

Besides organising the camp, she also distributed books among local students. “The book distribution programme, too, was a gesture on my part to appreciate the efforts of children who have done well in their board exams,” added Noorjahan.
The 28-year-old new bride had also asked her father to procure saplings, which would be handed over to the guests at her wedding. What a thoughtful giveaway, isn’t it? The 28-year-old new bride tied the knot with Murshidabad resident Obidur Rahman on Tuesday (September 15).
TBH, this is such a great way to celebrate one’s wedding. Kudos to you, Noorjahan, for pulling this off. In these uncertain times, it is people like her who restore our faith in humanity. After all, we’re all in this together, right?
