Every time we talk about women in Bollywood, wage-gap is the first thing that comes to mind. Which is a shame because these women are doing great work, and we should be talking about THAT, instead. The gender pay gap is something that we still talk about, because it’s also something that hasn’t changed, after all this time – after so many conversations.
Of course, it’s not just Bollywood where the gender pay gap exists, it happens everywhere, which is as sad as it sounds. The film industry, though, keeps coming with excuses to justify the disparity. These excuses include anything from ‘oh, but the audiences are coming for the male actors’ to ‘it’s about the business’. None of this makes sense, because let’s just face it, these are either lies or just one of the repercussions of the Bollywood’s actions. The hypocrisy is when the industry says that it’s doing enough for women by producing ‘women centric films’.
And anyone who says that there’s no disparity is straight up lying, because this year’s numbers alone, say everything.

All these women are not only doing good work, but have also managed to create a place for themselves in a biased space. So, this is a sad sad reality, indeed.
