10 Times Bollywood Wowed Us On The Runway More Than They Did In Their Movies

10 Times Bollywood Wowed Us On The Runway More Than They Did In Their Movies

Six months ago, I was writing about my first time at a fashion show and now, a season later, here I am talking about the runways at the recently concluded Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week 2018 like a legit fashion front-runner. And since a lot of shows this season had Bollywood celebrities as showstoppers I decided to write a piece on the looks I loved, and the looks I didn’t.

Here are 10 looks from LMIFW 2018 that wowed us in good ways and bad.

Looks We Crushed

1. Sonakshi Sinha

The showstopper for the Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna show, Sonakshi Sinha sashayed down the ramp in a shimmering black dress. The maxi dress had a thigh-high slit, slits in the sleeves, a sheer neckline, and head to toe shimmer. Overall, quite a simple look but she made it look anything but basic.

2. Athiya Shetty

Athiya Shetty painted the town red in a Posh Pride outfit. She walked the ramp for the brain behind the brand, Prerna Khetrapal, and looked like a satin dream. Her outfit consisted of red separates, in two different shades, and a pristine white blazer that matched her block heels.

3. Huma Qureshi

Huma Qureshi channelled her ‘inner white swan’ for the Grand Finale Rainbow Walk celebrating the verdict of section 377 in support of LGBTQ rights. In an all-white outfit by Manish Malhotra, Huma walked to spread the message of peace and love. Her skirt was layered love, and that jacket looked fashionably powerful. We are so digging this look.

4. Gauhar Khan

We didn’t see a lot of Gauhar Khan after Ishaqzaade but her walk at LMIFW’18 was one we will remember for long. Not only did she show an interesting pant-style saree drape in Prreeti Jaiin Nainutia couture but her blouse looked like it had come straight out of an ancient Indian manuscript. Although we’re not loving the jewellery she wore with the attire, we sure are down for the drape this season.

5. Diana Penty

Another all-white look was seen on Diana Penty when she walked the ramp for Vidhi Wadhwani. The ensemble had solid white trousers with details along the sides, a cut-out crop top, and a kimono-style textured blazer with 3D embroidery. All she needed were a pair of statement hoops shaped like a pentagon and clear strap heels to look like THAT. There’s no better way to honour white than this.

Looks We Crashed

6. Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen’s look for Bhumika and Jyoti has done rounds on the Internet already. The outfit consisted of a green strapless asymmetric dress with an overload of frills and off-key tailoring. The actress and activist walked the ramp in this grassy green ensemble, and it wouldn’t be wrong to call it a catastrophe. The turban on the top of it looked quite unflattering as well. Let’s just move on, shall we?

7. Prachi Desai

If you thought green couldn’t look worse, wait until you see Prachi Desai’s look for Archit Narayanam. She wore a parrot green lehenga choli which looked too 2003 to be true. It had a short choli with an OD of fringe, a checked dupatta, and don’t even get us started on the lehenga skirt. Even her hairstyle and jewellery looked dated. This look is a total crash for us.

8. Sophie Choudry

Sophie Choudry’s Megha Jain Madaan outfit is giving us mixed feelings TBH. She wore a one-shoulder silver sequinned blouse with mehendi green dhoti-style pants. This was cinched with a belt made from the same fabric as the blouse, just like the heels. And somewhere in the back, the one-shoulder flared into a pallu of sorts in the same fabric as the pants. As much as we are crushing the colour combination for street style, the overly complexed outfit is a no-no.

9. Swara Bhaskar

We honestly think Rhea Kapoor understands Swara’s style the best because clearly, this look is not working for her. Honestly, the gold motifs on a purple lehenga skirt from a festive perspective are a pretty detail, but the blouse is a sheer buzzkill. The designer Karishma Deep Sondhi tried a cape style dupatta which was an epic fail.

10. Yami Gautam

Last but not the least, Yami Gautam’s orange lehenga accessorised with shoulder dusters was off-putting to another level. The actress wears such nice clothes in her movies, and real life, but on the runway, just WOW! Not sure if Warp-N-Weft Designs was going for a bridal look or just an OTT summer look. But it disappoints both equally.
