The Pulwama Attack that took place in the Pulwama district in Jammu & Kashmir this week shook India from within. This was followed by a surgical strike carried out by India on Tuesday morning during which one of the Indian Air Force Pilot Wing Commanders, Abhinandan Varthaman landed in Pakistan after shooting down a fighter jet. Post the chaos that took place on the Line Of Control, Abhinandan was in Pakistan army’s custody and is all set to be released by 2 PM today at the Wagah Border. Pakistan is considering this a token of peace.
Now that you are up to date with what is going on, here is the most outrageous reaction that Bollywood decided to have to this crisis. While citizens from both India and Pakistan are hoping for peace with the #SayNoToWar, Bollywood producers are fighting amongst themselves for the most insensitive reason ever, title registration.
With the success of Vicky Kaushal’s 2019 hit film, URI: The Surgical Strike, Bollywood producers can’t wait to cash in on the patriotism of another national crisis. We don’t even have our pilot back yet! 40 people lost their lives in Pulwama, several others have been injured and the country is in a frenzy over what will happen next but I’m glad to see Bollywood has their priorities in place.
An article by The Huffington Post quoted a producer saying, “Ek Aur Likho —Pulwama Attack Versus Surgical Strikes 2.0.” He then asked his assistant, “You’ve got to think of long, complicated titles. The straight ones like Pulwama, Surgical Strike 2.0, Balakot are all gone.”
“After a point, they started discussing amongst themselves, suggesting variations of the same title,” said the source, “It was quite a sight.”
It’s nice to see that while Bollywood biggies shy away from making strong statements or as Ranveer Singh likes to call himself, are ‘Apolitical,’ they don’t miss a beat in turning sensitive issues into commercial content.
An Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association official confirmed to the media that on 27th February a number of applications were received for titles relating to the Pulwama attacks and Abhinandan Varthaman after his videos were released on the internet. Some of these applications are said to be filed by T-Series and Abundantia Entertainment.
Is that simple? Apparently, yes! Registering a title is a simple form that needs to be filled, with a few alternate options and costs only Rs 250, including 18 percent GST. So that’s the cost of India’s sentiments?

Yes, URI was a blockbuster success. And yes, we will continue to make movies about people who are a rich part of India’s history. But can’t we just wait till we get our pilot back home? Or till we are completely at peace as a country?
What is the mad rush for? Which train are you missing? The worst fact that came into light is that these titles are often sold forward to other production houses, bid on and belittled in a power struggle.
Are we so insensitive, Bollywood?
