“I have seen the industry too closely, it’s not a fairytale,” said actor Sanjay Kapoor in Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. And we could totally understand what the actor was trying to imply. Over the years, we saw the downfall of many actors in Bollywood for reasons known and unknown. Sometimes, the actors performed extremely well in their movies but remained underrated. On the other hand, many star kids couldn’t succeed because they were constantly compared with the more successful family members who are already established in the industry.
Thankfully, time is changing and people are now acknowledging the actors for their talent, not for their face value or connections in Bollywood. Major credit for the same goes to the OTT platforms that changed the dynamics of the Indian entertainment industry. Streaming giants like Netflix, Hotstar, and Amazon Prime, not only brought in fresh faces and content but also roped in some of the most underrated and forgotten actors of Bollywood.
Today, actors like Sushmita Sen, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, and many others are delivering some of their finest performances on these OTT platforms without bothering about the box-office dynamics that changes every Friday.
We loved how these actors made a strong comeback on the OTT platforms and reminded us once again why they deserved those comebacks in the first place.
7 Bollywood Stars Who Nailed It On OTT Platforms
From actors who made a comeback to actors who finally received their long-due recognition from the audience, here’s the list of the stars who nailed it on OTT.
Sushmita Sen
When Sushmita Sen walked in that red saree in Main Hoon Na, we believe not just SRK but every fan must have heard violins in their head. However, Main Hoon Na released in 2004, and it remained Sushmita’s last super hit movie in Bollywood. But, the actress made a come back with her web series Aarya on Hotstar and the crime drama was so good, that we already cannot wait for its second season!
Saif Ali Khan
Technically, Saif never left Bollywood but we cannot deny that his movie career was going down the hill. His movies like Humshakals made his fans wonder why such a fine actor was agreeing to such terrible side roles! Call it poor choices of movies or bad offers, Saif really needed to get back in the game and that’s what he did with his role in Omkara and then in Sacred Games. The Netflix show reminded us once again just how talented our Nawab of Bollywood is.
Bobby Deol
Bobby Deol did well in his initial years but was later overshadowed by the success of his brother, Sunny Deol, and the legacy of his father, Dharmendra. His comeback in movies like Housefull 4 also did not help reboot his career. However, it was his web series Aashram that piqued the interest of his fans once again and now we are eagerly waiting for season 3.
Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek Bachchan has proved his acting skills time and again in movies like Guru and Yuva but he still remains one of the most underrated actors in the industry. After appearing in inconsequential side roles in movies like Happy New Year and Housefull 3, Abhishek finally made a comeback with the Amazon Prime web series Breathe: Into The Shadows.
R Madhavan
Why we did not see more of R Madhavan in Hindi film industry is beyond our understanding! Thankfully, the actor made a strong comeback with his Amazon Prime web series Breathe. The thriller drama was a mega-hit and we can’t wait to see Maddy in another such brilliantly crafted show again.
Radhika Apte
Radhika Apte is now known as the ‘queen of OTT platforms’. Her performances in web series like Ghoul and Sacred Games remind us exactly why we need more shows with Radhika in them.
Kay Kay Menon
Thanks to movies like Life In A Metro and Haider, we all know exactly how talented Kay Kay Menon is. However, it was in the Hotstar web series Special Ops where we saw the actor deliver one of his finest performances as the lead role. And honestly, he simply nailed it!
We hope OTT platforms keep blessing us with more such brilliant movies and shows and we get to watch more such fine performances in the future.
