With her extravagant fashion choices, Urvashi Rautela owned the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival. However, it was her Cartier alligator necklace that stirred controversy and got the nation talking. While some people questioned the actress about its authenticity, others trolled her for not being enough informed about its legacy. Before we go ahead, allow me to give you some context on the renowned Cartier Alligator neckpiece:
Back in 1975, Mexican actress María Félix ordered Cartier to make a customized alligator necklace to showcase her love for her pet baby crocodile. While one crocodile is made out of 18-karat yellow gold and has more than 1,000 brilliant-cut fancy intense yellow diamonds, the other one is sculpted in 18-karat white gold and has 1,060 emeralds of 66.86 carats. Maria wore the exquisite adornment for years before it became a legacy. It now retails for a hefty 200 crores!
While I def feel like having the precious Cartier piece in my closet looking at all the hype, I certainly will never have that kind of money! But guess what? Our lifesaver aka the DIY queen Shweta Mahadik has come to our rescue, yet again! After recreating some head-turning celeb ensembles and jewellery pieces, Shweta tried her hands at DIYing the bling of the hour- the famous Cartier alligator necklace!
