Actresses in Bollywood are no strangers to body-shaming. From Vidya Balan to Neha Dupia, Parineeti Chopra to even Kareena Kapoor Khan, women have always been in the limelight for their weight gain. While it’s 2022 and there has been a gradual but slow change, there’s still a long, long way to go. Giving us her two cents on the issue, Bhumi Pednekar opened about fat-shaming in B-town. And NGL, we’re totally digging her honesty.
Speaking a leading daily, the Badhaai Do star spoke about how people who still continue to fat-shame need to be called out. She said, “I feel times have really changed. Fat-shaming and body-shaming are things of the past and people who are still doing that need to be called out. We have so many beautiful examples. Women today celebrate who they are and I am definitely one of them.” We completely agree with you Bhumi! We think women need to love themselves for exactly who they are.
She further revealed her take on body positivity. “I care about being fit and healthy and don’t necessarily care about my weight. I transform as my character requires. I believe that body positivity starts with loving yourself first. That is very important,” she said.
On the work front, Bhumi has several projects in the pipeline. “I have a film releasing in a month. I have already finished shooting three films this year. My year started with ‘Badhaai Do’ which received so much love and appreciation. ‘Bheed’ and ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ are going to be released in the second half of the year. I am on the verge of completing ‘Afwaa’ and we are also done with ‘The Lady Killer’. There is also one unannounced film that we will be sharing with everybody soon,” the actress said.
As for the issue about body-shaming, let’s get one thing straight—commenting about someone’s weight is never okay. We love that Bhumi celebrates self-love and we’re always rooting for her success. More power to you, Bhumi!
