This past year saw some great trends in Indian wear that made us love wearing our kurtis, shararas and lehengas a little more. Here are some of the best Indian fashion trends that we love too much and will continue wearing in 2017 as well!

This has been the most-loved trend of 2016 and it’s not going away anytime soon! This trend has been sported by all celebrities, bloggers and fashionistas alike. It’s a very minimal, easy and basic trend that every girl can try, and must, if you haven’t already. From off-shoulder suits, blouses to Indo-western gowns, your options are unlimited!
2. Cape Council

Yes! Capes were big in Indian wear this season. From dupatta capes, poncho-style capes, asymmetrical styles, to jacket styled ones… There’s one for every girl. This trend is sure to stay and isn’t fading away anytime soon, because it suits most body types and is a great way to style your suits and lehengas. You can experiment with fabrics, colours and cuts…it’s endless!
3. Trail Anarkalis & Lehengas

This is the hottest wedding trend, and it’s just begun. Lehengas, gowns and even anarkali suits with that added trail to make it look more sophisticated and dressy. Trails have been a part of western gowns for the longest time, but their inclusion in Indian wear has just made things really amazing. All you brides-to-be, do take note!
4. Pom Poms Party

Pom-poms are such a cute way to add a quirky twist to your desi style. Neon coloured pom-pom tassels on at the back, pom-pom button details, or even colourful doris tied to blouse backs, this trend is experimental, bright yet bold without being OTT.

Pre-draped sarees, sarees worn with crop tops, bikini sarees, dhoti style sarees, and short sarees… There’s lots of room to experiment and way too many drapes to try! This year, it was all about modernizing the saree. So, go on, experiment with different colours, fabrics and drapes because a girl in saree is hot AF!

Who said you can’t wear white with a festive twist. From casual Indian wear, weddings and even for festive occasions…the colour was seen on celebrities and fashionistas alike. Some mixed it with gold, other contrasted it with neon colours… Either way, this colour is sure to stay!
7. Brocade Bonanza

The fabric really gained a lot of traction this year! With benarasi silk getting a lot of attention in the international fashion scene and lightweight outfits being the preferred choice of 2016, brocade was the fabric for the year. Lehengas, blouses, pants or even blazers…brocade was everywhere and we would definitely see more of it in 2017!
8. Kurtas As Dresses

Kurta dresses became the newest in thing this year when it came to casual dressing. Be it a simple, long kurta worn as a maxi dress or just an elaborate, embellished anarkali-style kurta that looks fab sans the churidaar. This trend mixed easy silhouettes with style, and form with functionality.
9. Velvet Vogue

The trend catapulted from fashion weeks all over the world, but translated into to Indian wear in the most unexpected yet beautiful way. Velvet is a tricky trend to wear but with velvet blouses, lehenga- skirts, crop tops, shrugs and even dresses worn as kurtis…the trend has really come a long way. There’s still a lot of room to experiment and innovate. Bring it on, 2017!
10. Kurta Paired With Skirts

This was probably one of the most relaxed and easy-to-wear trends that came about in 2016! Pairing your regular kurta with a skirt, or even an embellished lehenga makes for a beautiful ensemble. This trend is just the right style for the Indian body type, and is clearly not going away anywhere, anytime soon.
