Beauty Switches To Make For The Upcoming Rain-Soaked Days

Monsoons are demanding an evolution, and I’m not talking weather-wise — I’m talking beauty. It’s time to make some switches — swapping your go-to lip bullet with a skincare-infused lipstick, and replacing your grease-laden cream with a lightweight moisturiser are a few tasks on your to-do list. And that’s why I’ve roped in two renowned brands, Pilgrim and Blushbee, to share with me their inputs on the same. While Anurag Kedia, Founder, Pilgrim talks to me about evolving my skincare (goodbye, greasiness and breakouts), Shobana Navaneethan, Co-Founder of BlushBee, leaves me with tips on switching my makeup during monsoons (greetings long-lasting, skin-loving makeup). Ahead — our conversation.

Make These Beauty Switches (Mon)-Soon!

What are some switches you’d suggest we make for the monsoons? Please mention some products too.

Skincare: Pilgrim’s Kedia says, “Due to the increased humidity in the climate, our skin feels greasy and sticky during monsoons. Cleansing becomes important, and now is the time to switch to gel-based creamy cleansers from foaming cleansers. K-beauty gel cleanser Volcanic Lava Ash Face Wash is a good choice.  If you have acne-prone skin, you may experience a sudden flare in breakouts during monsoons. Using a face-wash with Salicylic acid like the Salicylic & Glycolic Acid Foaming Face Wash really helps keep the pores clean and breakouts at bay! Make sure to ditch the heavier creams for gel-based lightweight moisturizers or water-based serums. You can opt for the Oil-Free Moisturiser as part of your daytime routine and the Red Vine Night Gel Crème with Retinol, Mulberry and Vitamin C for your nighttime skincare. You can also try the Salicylic Acid & Niacinamide Oil Control Serum for preventing oiliness and acne. Serums with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid work well too. And don’t forget sunscreen as UV rays can penetrate the cloud cover. An ultralight White Lotus Sunscreen Serum SPF 50 PA+++ is your best bet: non-greasy and no white cast.”

Makeup: BlushBee’s Shobana Navaneethan says, “Most of us forget that our lips are the most susceptible to changes in the weather — monsoons can cause your lips to dry and crack. It’s a natural tendency to lick them — but, unfortunately, that only dries them faster. Your parched lips require the goodness of Vitamin E, Coconut Oil, Carnauba Wax, and a few other ingredients that don’t just nourish them but protect them throughout the day. This doesn’t mean you need to compromise on your lip shade. You can choose any of BlushBee’s 12 creamy matte-textured shades to look perfect while protecting your lips — in a single shot. These lipsticks are organic and chemical-free, and excel at nourishing your lips thanks to their composition of Vitamin E and Almond Oil.”

Can we make the switch instantly or is there a way to help our skin adapt to the product gradually?

Skincare: “Yes, you can make the switch instantly for best results. If skincare is new to you, start by switching your cleansers, and ultimately incorporate more active ingredients-based skincare products to your AM and PM routines.

Makeup: “Your skin will radiate with good health when you make the right switch. While layering your skin with creamy products might seem like a good idea, you risk clogging your pores. This can lead to many unwanted skin issues. Choose something light, and reapply as and when needed. When the face is greasy with moisturisers, many resort to products with talc in them for a long-lasting effect, but talc can cause a lot of issues. Opt for talc-free products like BlushBee’s talc-free eyeshadows and blush. They’re safe, full of goodness, and last long.”

Can you explain why these switches are necessary?

Kedia explains to me that these switches become necessary because of an increase in humidity during monsoon — this makes your face sweat easily. The hair absorbs a lot of this humidity, and it becomes frizzy as well. And we don’t feel as thirsty, and tend to drink less water. This can dehydrate the skin from within, and cause irritations.

Navaneethan adds that our skin is the largest organ in the body, and it needs the right care at all times — ignoring it or loading it with chemicals and hazardous/toxic ingredients can cause severe damage in the long run. Every product you choose should not only make your skin look pretty on the outside but also make it radiate with health from the inside as well.

Since the monsoons have already hit, we’d advise you to pull out your (virtual) shopping cart and start adding the right products, ASAP!
